Surprising to see it after two loads but I would be inclined to blame the tapered chamber as well. It's not just a Rossi thing AFAIK but yeah.

I haven't ever seen a 454 come apart like that. I had a Rossi before I had my BHA, and several revolvers.

Very odd IMHO. Following.

Was there a ring around the area you cut the brass. Also a piece cutlength wise to see the inside of the brass area where you cut. Does one look like a primer hole deformed. Pop the primer to see the other side. Maybe a little pressure load.

So, what you are saying is "do not use reloads" in this make of rifle ?
Seriously curious.
Rob
I have a Ruger Super Redhawk which if I am using max loads I get 4 reloads and rings start to appear. If I drop it down 1/2 a gr I can get at least 8 reloads. A friend has a Rossi and she is getting 4 reloads with Starline brass. My fired brass fits in her chamber easily. Her brass is slightly harder to resize compared to mine. She backed the load down and gets a few more reloads out of the case. A large chamber and maximum loads will reduce case life.

I ran some 300 and 240 grn XTP handloads through my R92 today. 4 of the 40 cases had a slight or fairly pronounced ring. Mine are much further up from the web though. One of the Virgin cases is bad enough it's now scrap. No separations but not great to find out about. I'm also not happy about the ejector marks but at 60,000+PSI I suppose that's just life.

I had the same problem with my puma .454. Cases didn't separate completely but had severe case separation signs from 2-3 cases out of 30. It does have a large chamber and a bore diameter of .454". one case nearly separated on a start load of 28 gr of h110. All cases showed heavy bulging at the base of the case no matter what the powder charge. I eventually did find a comment online a guy used lee liquid alox and lubed his jacketed bullet. I gave it a try and it worked for me. The pressure signs were a lot better with a soft bulge rather than a sharp bulge on the base of the case. Velocity was about 30fps less but no case separation.
