I recently picked up an old Colt New Service 455 Eley (same as 455 Colt) and have been having trouble trying to find some reloading data for it. The bit of ammo that I do have for it seems to be using a 265 gr. bullet.

Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated!

I know some of you nutz shoot this old calibre! :p

Thanks,

Fudd

Yes, from what I have read you are right, the .455 Colt is the same as the .455 Webley Mk I. The reload data that you link to (I've found that data before too) however is for the .455 Webley Mk II cartridge.

The orginal .455 Webley or Colt case was 0.88" in length and the Webley Mk II is only 0.77" long. I've heard it referred to as a "Special" version of the original. Specs I have seen list the Mk II as a 260 gr. bullet at about 710 fps but the original Mk I as a 265 gr. bullet at 760 fps.

In terms of loads it doesn't make any real difference. Yes, the one case is a little longer, but at the pressures you are developing with 455 data, you will have no problems. If it makes you feel better, Waters published some test data using the 455 Eley/455 Webly combo, some years back. You can find it in his Pet Loads series I believe. - dan
