I have a MK V that I want to reload for. I also have some 265 gr hard cast bullets in 455. From what I understand these would not be good for black powder use. However, I was thinking of using these castings with 3.1 gr of Red Dot. Is this a combination that is ok or should I try and get so soft casts? If it is ok, what would be a good bullet lube? Where too can I get some soft casts as I would like to make some bp loads?

I have a MKVI that I handload for, I bought the bullets from Bullet Barn, hard cast 265gr and worked up a load with red dot, found that 4.0 gr gives me about 650 fps with decent accuracy.
So a starting load of 3.1 gr is good,if you can Chrony them you can work up to get the desired speed.

Thanks everyone. I have lots of Red Dot so I will use it. I might go a little hotter than the 3.1 gr. Unfortunately I don't have a chronometer. I reload just to save a few bucks and I usually load on the light side as I am not really concerned about accuracy.

My usual .455 is 255gr Lyman SWC, wheel weights, with 3.2gr VV N310. So you know, all Webleys were drilled 0.442" with 0.004" rifling for a total of 0.450" - I size mine 0.452", why they called them "455" I have no idea...
