Just finishing installing a Gevelot (yeah, I know) scope on a new 457 .22magnum. Haven't sighted it in yet. I will eventually put a small Leupold scope on to be in step with the other two 457's. .22 mag does a good job on gophers, blowing them back from where they were hit. I don't shoot .22 mag much, maybe a2 or 3 boxes a year, but they are fun to shoot.

I am expecting my "mercenary gopher shooter from Ontario" to show up around noon. Our first mission will be to attack some rebel gophers eating into an oat field belong to the people I work for Spring and Fall.

......wait...you mean I'm not the only one? :) Got back from our "mission" in S. Alberta a few weeks back. lol

Let us know how the 457 in 22WMR shoots. Coming from allot of 452 experience, I wasn't sure what to make of the 457. Have one now, and really like it. Trigger is a bit on the heavy side, I'll remedy that.

We shot for two+ hours at one of our standby gopher patches, came in to town for lunch, went to another spot. Grass was getting high, but we shot until 6:15. Today we figure around maybe 300 gophers. We both use little stools and camera tripods with swivels and rests of one kind or another. Solved a lot of world problems. Great day, all in all.

What was the average range of your shots?

I am not an Olympic shooter, so I was taking the closer shots, anything from 10 feet to maybe 60-70 yards, most probably under 50 yards. Mercenary shooter takes the long shots. This afternoon we used .17hmr. I used a 457 American and he was using a Savage of some sort, making some really long shots. We figured we shot maybe 400ish after lunch and maybe a couple hundred this morning. All in one big pasture field. We would just park our selves on our little stools and wait for the gophers to pop up. Beautiful cloudless day, a bit of a breeze, not overly hot. Life doesn't get much better. Before lunch we shot until about 10:30 then went in to town to watch the little parade and have lunch with one of my old time school buddies. I used my "Bushman Special" 455 .22 in the morning.

Love the 457 22wmr american! Just bought one and it's under a inch at a 100 yards, I admit I am not the greatest shot but this Lil gun is amazing! Would like to get into a decent gopher patch out too 300 yards!
