Hey, so I recently picked up a used Cz 457 vpt with an ibi barrel installed. I ran a bunch of sk magazine through it while waiting for my lgs to restock on some better sk ammo. It never ejected 100% but always extracted. Then I tried some lapua centre x, eley tenex and yesterday got some sk standard plus. None of the those extract consistently. Maybe 50%. I scrubbed the bolt face, cleaned the chamber and chamber face but that didn’t fix the problem. Ran more sk magazine and it extracted fine. The guy I bought it off of said he never had extraction issues. Any suggestions on what I should do? On the sk plus if I fire and open the bolt the spent case stays in, 8/10 times if I drop the mag and cycle the action it will pull it out the second time. The extractors don’t look too bad but maybe that’s the problem?

cowboy, I have a 455 and have found that if I don't pull the bolt 'sharply' the case may stick in the extractor. This is using SK+, all I've used consistently. I don't recall any MMs or Fed-Ch40g holding back but I haven't shot a lot of them. It's just a machine, not that fragile.

Is your mag over seating? It will extract withe mag out try another mag. Is it the original stock?

Does it with two different mags, if the mag is empty it will extract second go ‘round. I just drop the mag down so I don’t grab the next round. It’s the original manners stock that it comes with

Pulling sharply helps with ejection of the sk magazine, but doesn’t seem to make a difference with the extraction of the other stuff

Take off the barrel and show a pic of the chamber end... clean out any crud that may be in the extractor slots.

Show a picture of the bolt from the front and from the bottom so extractor claws are in focus

Check that the barrel is properly installed. It's possible that one or both of the retaining screws are loose and this may cause misalignment of rim/extractors.

Using an inch-pound or low range Newton-meters torque driver, tighten to no more than manufacturer's specs. Many CZ shooters prefer 30 - 35 inch pounds to avoid the possibility of chamber distortion.

Jerry,
Not 100 percent sure how to post pictures but I’ll try. I did just notice a burr/chip on my bolt face right under the extractor. I’m guessing that’s my problem, would it be safe to gently file that?

Without seeing condition of the parts, can't give much more info. If you can't/don't know how to post pics, send me to me and I can post them here for you.

Sounds good, when I get home next week I’ll try to take some good pictures and email them to you. Unless someone can tell me how to post pictures from an iPhone. I can not get the barrel off though, She is tight.

It could be the extractor, holder and spring, having the same issue with my MTR, my first solution was to take off some material inside of the extractor and holder( facing the bolt) , to increase tension for grabbing the fired case. Was able to make it work 100%, If I’m not mistaken your rifle bolt is also designed to take 17hmr which is not 100% share dimensions the same as the 22, after 8 months of waiting for new parts which just came last week from Wolverine, it’s working perfectly now, btw Wolverine handles CZ warranty.

Thanks! I’ll reach out to wolverine and order new parts. That has to be the problem, fingers crossed. Pretty sure You’re right about the bolt, was thinking of picking up a 457 in 17 and running that bolt or it’s parts to confirm that it’s my ejector and extractor, Or spring.
