I bought a 500gr mold for use in my 1895 and was debating on whether to use a gas check. Pros/cons?. Is there a cheap source of these or a gc maker? Do I need to put the bullet through a sizer with a gas check?

Dragonlube has checks. A few other sponsors here too but I forget who.

If the mold has a gas check shank it may or may not shoot well without one. Some can be finicky without.
You will need a sizer to seat the checks. If you aren't using them you can likely shoot the bullets as cast without sizing as long as the loaded rounds aren't too fat to chamber. If it's a good mold and your casting is consistent they should be round and the same diameter etc.

Now that you have our attention can you explain why?

It's great that you can voice an opinion, but in order to help others and prevent experiences you may have it would be nice to know why.
Please share your experience's before labelling,

The actual dies are decent but dealing with the pompus azz that runs the place is just plain painful

I improved my pat marlin check maker by grinding a slight angle to the cutting punch. Now it cuts rather than punches so the discs have a cleaner edge.

I have a custom 338 cal 145 gr SWC which I shoot as plinkers with or without gas checks and I can’t see a difference in accuracy at 25 to 50 yards. Naturally, I now shoot them without.

Dies produce boolits that are either a gas check option or not so it really depends on what type of dies you have. Also, as already mentioned, powder coating is easy to do and provides similar barrier for the hot gasses. I have a 500gr gas check die where the boolits come out around a few grains over 500. Powder coat and gas check before sizing (overkill). I don't shoot them very often as I tend to load them pretty hot. Close to a 458WM in felt recoil.

You can go out and buy a new F350 Powerstroke to tow your new wood splitter home....but you dont need to...your Ranger will do that job just fine. Same as the 45-70...you can gas check it if you want, but really no need to....use heavy bullets with a large meplat at 1300-1400 fps...it will do anything you require it to do on this continent.

Im just getting into casting for this cartrige myself. Have one of the shorter barrel Marlins. 450 and 300gr molds. Got a bunch of wheelweoghts for lead. At what speed would a gas check be required? I know i dont need to push a 450gr fast or anything but ill likely load a few rounds for hunting (i need to do research on hunting with cast bullets as well) a little hotter than stuff to shoot for fun.

I would suggest building a "dummy round" with those 450 gr. if you plan on feeding from the magazine. most of those weight slugs (anything over 430 gr) are to long in the nose if you seat & crimp in the "crimp ring". Any that I have tried catch on the tube entrance to the frame, not allowing the elevator to lift. If the bullet ogive is shaped so that a little crimp catches the bullet just ahead of the crimp ring they will work, or you have to feed thru the ejection port one at a time.

Whenever I hear that someone is going to cast for a Marlin, I always ask if they have a micro groove barrel.
It can be done, but a really fat bullet is needed most times.
Powder coating has worked well for me when dealing with micro groove rifling.
