Can a Accuracy International Magnum magazine be modified to take a .458 Win Mag cartridge? When I trial fit a .458 cartridge into a .300 Win mag magazine the feed lips seem like they would work, and the first cartridge slips in with no problem. The issue is that the magazine has ribs to stop the .300 from battering the bullet tips under recoil and they stop the .458s from fitting.

I think that by milling out the top section of one or both of the ribs into a window the mags would work, or perhaps the ribs could be blacksmithed into submission.

Barring that, does anyone know another way to make a Model 70 hold a pile of cartridges? A Remington .458 would be rather easy , if they actually made one. Belt-fed is not being considered.;)

The mag lips would require altering and you'd need a different follower.

I can't see a whole lot (Lott) of follower difference possibilities on a single stack magazine. The lips might require a little tweaking, but they only cover half the length of the mag and the back half of a .300 Win and a .458 are the same. I make most of my .458 brass out of .300 Win. Besides, I know that it will feed the one cartridge that fits into the mag, the issue is getting more than one in the magazine.

Well, I'm up and running with a 6 shot .458 Lott, detachable magazine. Any suggestions on a Canadian source of 10 shot Accuracy International .300 Win Mags? I can get them from PTG but would just as some get them from a sponsor or Canadian. It would be faster if they were in stock.

It feeds all Lott dummy loads flawlessly, but on .458 Win it is touchy about bullet types. I can work with that, it is the roundnose that are a little lumpy in the Win Mag.
