But it’s just a rimless 45/70 for autoloaders? This is a very expensive 45/70 with many additional steps lol
 
Concur 100% - they have succeeded at making a sows ear out of a silk purse...

The SOCOM was developed for AR platforms, why would anyone want one in a lever action rifle when there are plenty of .45/70 & .450 Marlins readily available... and the timing of the introduction is poor, with Ruger having gone into Marlin production and excitement high for their products to hit dealer shelves.
 
There are always a few buyers for any crazy niche item.

Only reason I could see is if someone was already running .458 SOCOM in other firearms and wanted the ammunition commonality rather than having to add .45-70 Government to their inventory as well.

That is possible, but I am not seeing many of the AR crowd walking it back to a lever action.
