Hello everybody,

I just picked up a CZ 550 Safari Classic in 458WM and included in the package was a brand new pull through reamer in 458 Lott and a set of go/ no-go gauges for belted magnums. It has the through-the-barrel extension included but no sort of handle. The guy I got it from said he was going to grind the end into a square and use a tap handle.

Is this conversion something that is do-able by someone that has never done it before or should I find a smith in Calgary to take care of it? It seems pretty straight forward, but I know that you can't put metal back if you cut too much!

I also got a NECG stainless barrel band with the package and was wondering if someone could recommend a smith in Calgary or area that would be able to install it.

The necg will be CM in the white, not stainless. I would also find the smith you want, not one that happens to be close to you. Canada post goes everywhere and using the right guy is important.

Fair enough, any recommendations then? I asked about Calgary because I'm pretty sure there is some good smiths in the city and surrounding area.

As far as the recommendation to sell the reamer, I appreciate your opinion, but the 458 Lott is what I'm after. I'm well aware the win mag is "enough". Although, if I wanted enough I would not own anything but a 30-06, know what I'm sayin?

It's an exceptionally good thing to have the reamer and head space gauges. Those would be something a smithy would have to buy or rent. You'd be paying for it and wouldn't get to keep the tools.
Take the whole thing to a smithy, but call and talk about it first. Most smithy's are very busy guys and it can take up to a year for some of 'em. While you're waiting you can look for ammo/brass and dies and a shell holder.
