Hey guys
I’m having an issue with OAL seating depth of 1.275. The issue is when I seat it to this length, it does not drop freely into and out of the Barrel. Only when I seat it to 1.240 will it drop free. So I want to know if this is safe to seat it that much further into the case. The powder is 4.7 GR of 700x, with a frontier 230gr tmj. The gun is an HK USP45 compact. Thanks for your help

Well you have determined with the plunk test what the OAL for 'your' pistol needs to be....good!

Looking at Lyman 50th they used 1.275 with 700x and list 4.8 as max with their setup.
Speer 14 has their OAL 1.260 with 700x at 4.6Min - 5.1Max

Because you are seating deeper your pressure will go up. Try less powder (4.5 say) and work your way back up to 4.7 and watch for pressure signs.
I suspect your present load won't be an issue with the seating depth change, but better to work back up again.

Hey thanks
Yes I decided to check other reloads I have from a 1911 I sold. They are the same. So I’m going to have to seat those deeper as well. I have found this load to be super accurate in any 1911 I’ve ever had. I’ll load it a bit lighter. Thanks for the quick reply!

Funny thing is I’ve never shot, or loaded for anything but a 1911 in .45. Haha as well I haven’t loaded a single round until today in around 5 years. Loaded up some 230gr XTP earlier, but the seating depth was 1.235 so I didn’t have the same issue.
