.45ACP Cast Bullet Recommendations

I am planning on buying a 1911 in .45 this year and will be reloading for it using cast bullets. I have an order in to Ben Hunchak for some .44 Mag bullets and would like to piggyback some 45's onto it to stock up before I get the gun. He has:

185gr SWC w/single groove
200gr SWC, both single and double groove
225gr RN
230gr truncated cone

The gun will be a commander length and likely will get an Armco tune up. What would be your recommendations from Ben's list of choices for bullets? Ben says he likes the 230gr TC over the 225gr RN, but I know the standard .45ACP load is a 230gr RN at around 900fps.

I find that alot of the 225 gr. Rn cast bullets don't have as much bearing surface as other designs, it doesn't seem to have a bad effect on jacketed bullets but, one look at the sloping sides of this design kinda makes me wonder about the accuracy.....Ben
 
My Colt likes 230 grain RN's or FP's(flat points). TC's would do though. Haven't ever used 'em in .45 myself. They do work well in my Inglis HP though.
"...SWC doesn't always feed 100% right in a 1911..." Yep. Not a big deal to set up the pistol to feed 'em though. You just extend the feed ramp about half way up the sides of the chamber with a fine jeweller's file. Usually needed for 185's too.
 
HOwdy; I used the 200 RNFP 45s that i had for my 45 colt cal. They load nice ,shoot well and cycle into the chamber like a RN. If the 45 is a short commander length you might find the 200 a bit better for recoil .
 
I am loosing my eyesight so I really like the 200gr wc for the big holes they make on the target. The failsafe OAL for 200gr wc is 1.222. Under it is 5.5 gr of W231 from the lee load manual.

You must have an older 1911 with an unmodified feed ramp.
My Colt 1991A1 feeds these flawlessly.
 
using 200 gr SWC with great success in my 1911

just got some 175 gr SWC's, will oad some up tonight and see how they perform tomorrow.
 
A little late for the reply, but I got a bunch of the 230TC from Ben last fall. I have shot a few hundred this spring in Smith & Wesson 4506, and they have worked without a hitch. Not one issue.
 
I like the 200 gr SWC like Brutus posted above too, the work great in all 3 of my 45's, they are basically a copy of the famous H&G No. 68 mould.
