Has anyone ever heard of any lever action rifles possibly being produced in .460 S&W Mag? Or has anyone ever had the idea or looked into having an existing rifle rechambered for it? This IMO would be AWESOME and would jump at the chance to ever acquire such a wonderful toy! I don't quite know what action would be a good donor for this project, but imagine that anything in .454 Casull would be a good start but would probably be too short... Anyone else ever pondered this?

From Big Horn's website:

Q:Will you chamber the Model 89 in .460 Smith & Wesson?

A:There are no definite plans for one at this writing. Unfortunately, we haven't solved the difficult parts concerning the .460 S&W Magnum. We have considered creating a lever gun in .460 S&W Magnum, but this cartridge has a significantly higher pressure maximum. While we believe our action could stand up to such pressure, we would not offer it until we would have a chance to do a great deal of testing.

Aside from the pressure issue, the fact that the feeding of lever guns are very sensitive to cartridge length causes us great concern were we to offer a .460. We know people would like to use it for .45 Colt and .454 Casull, just like they could in a revolver. Since these cartridges have a maximum overall length of approximately 1/2" less than the .460 S&W Magnum, we are fairly certain that the shorter cartridges would not feed properly through an action set up for the .460 S&W. We don't want to sell a product that would cause our customers to be unhappy.

Maybe the reason it hasn't been done by other manufacturers.

Kinda disappointing. I can wait and be happy with a .500 S&W.

any .500SW's in Canada?

From Big Horn it doesn't sound like it. Price is 1900$ US, and they state they're not sure on export price/availability. That being said, there are plenty of importers we have access to. Big Horn isn't the only one. Wild West Guns makes one, they make it in these calibers too...500 Linebaugh, .475 Linebaugh, .480 Ruger, .454 Casull. 1500-2000$ US

i can't see why a 1892 based rifle couldn't be reworked for 460s&w . i've had my rossi in 454 apart a few times thinking about how it might be reworked to fit the longer round .
fitting the last 1/4 inch is a tough one .

the only other problem that might happen is , i haven't seen and 460 rounds that didn't use pointed bullets . pointed bullets in a tube mag is very bad .

I have a 460S&W barrel for my TC Encore.DAN>>>:)

Maybe one of the singles like the Ruger No 1 or the Winchester 1885 Highwall. They are very robust actions and you dont have to worry about feed issues or pointy bullets in mag tubes. Yes I know they are not technically leverguns but they are lever operated nonetheless. I have a Highwall in 45/70 and have run some fairly thumpy loads thru it.

I would go with the 45-70 or 450 Marlin action could be strong enough and the lenght would not be and issue... JP.

I'd like to find a s/s 16" barreled Puma M92 in 454 Casull...

:D

Hell yeah! That would be sick. I'm addicted to the "big .45's" now. I thought maybe a 44mag was a good revolver to start with, but then found a lightly used XVR 8 3/8" in Dawson creek when I was there for work for a screaming deal. Long story short I HAD to buy it, and now a lever gun in the same calibre as one of my pistols with that much jam just seems like a piss load of fun!

Now I know the OP wanted a .460 Lever action, but I was just checking Wild West guns, and they make a takedown lever action on a marlin frame, and get this, they can chamber it in .457 Wild West Magnum (it'll still take .45-70) and in .50 Alaskan (based on the .348 Winchester)! Pricey...but...
