Anyone here order a scope from these guys before? Someone on another forum said that he has ordered from them with no problems shipped from the US.

Apparently opticsplanet can also ship here, and they seem really big, good prices. Play them off each other, get whichever is cheaper overall for your specific goodies! :)

Same price (basically) as Mystic Precision. I've bought from them. Great company with fast shipping and good communication. Take into account the exchange rate and (for my scope) border fees. Mine were around 65$.

Most of the scopes on Opticplanet say Gov't ITAR controlled on it. Are they registed to export internationally like Brownells?
(yes I am aware that optics are ITAR controlled)

Edit: Just confirmed with them that no scopes or red dot can be exported.

4scopes is great to deal with. They will price match anywhere that will export to Canada in my experience! Flat rate shipping, no duties/brokerage. You just end up paying PST/GST.

What's the duty rate on scopes then, anyways?
Saying you guys paid $30 or $90 bucks is meaningless without knowing how much the scope cost. ;)

$30 duty on a $2500 Nightforce: awesome.
$30 duty on a $100 Prostaff: awful...

Whoops, serves me right for believing the water cooler chat. No opticsplanet then. :)

There is no duty on US made products, that is the purpose of NAFTA, so if you buy a Leupold, say, you should only have to pay HST. I just tried this duty calculator site:

http://www.dutycalculator.com/new-import-duty-and-tax-calculation/

and it showed 0% for Japan also. You get 5 free calculations, then they want you to pay.
Yeah, I forgot about HST. Thanks for the reminder. Sounds pretty reasonable.

Duty is based on country of origin by percentage of value normally. Not a flat rate.
Yeah, that's what I was getting at. Saying "I paid $30" in absolute is meaningless, it's the rate that matters. I wish people would say "I only paid another 6%", or something similar. :)

Plain Sight Optics and Mystic Precision both seem really good to me - as does Wolverine for S&B. Their service and prices are very good and I'd suggest contacting them before ordering from the USA. Oh yes, and Nechako Outdoors - that is another one to consider.

Ordered some SIII's from 4 scopes a few months back when the CDN $ was about in par with the US $ ..... very fast shipping (about 2 business days from the date I ordered).

With all shipping and duties calculated, I did save $170.00 CDN on each scope compared to buying the SIII's here in Canada.

IBTL .......

I have heard that if you buy a scope from the U.S. dealer that it won't be covered under Canadian warranty and that you would have to ship it back the the States to get fixed. So saving a couple bucks buying from the States might not be worth it in the long run.

They're wrong about stuff from Japan, duty free only applies to things manufactured in Canada, USA and Mexico. Anything else is assessed duty, GST, PST or HST depending on where you live, and a $10 processing fee. Duty percentages vary from province to province and what it is you're importing. Tobacco and alcohol have the highest duty, and some dairy products.

CBSA has a free duty calculator on their website, here:

That is true of Leupolds and may be true of some other makes. Warranty and other service varies with the makers, some of them might be sent out of the country in any case.
