I hate to detract from Keith's excellent match, but the Western Canadian F-Class Championships will be the same Dates (July 1-4) in Chilliwack. This will include Team shoots as well. This conficted date is extremely unfortuante, but we cannot make changes when we secure date to use Military ranges.

Ian, I know the Western Canadian F-Class Championships is in ALBERTA (BC backed out) this year on the same date. I think it is just great to have options as to were to shoot, how far you want to drive, the distances you will be shooting, plus how much you want to spend doing it right? It is unfortunate that the dates conflict since we will be drawing from each others possible shooters. Originally, the SPRA exec had the Driller's on the same weekend as the AB Prov's (June 25-26) which would have been worse conflict wise for me since I have comitted to that last year. I have already moved the match date once for the 2011 Driller's from June 25-26 to July 2-3 and will NOT do it again.

Well, to date, we have 4 paid and registered shooters (one of which may well back out for the Western yet) and 4 other that have said they are going, including myself. I'm guessing we will have another 2 or 3 local guys coming and that will probably be it for this years Driller's. A nice sized smaller, inexpensive match were the competition will not be to hard on the new guys. Most of the hot shots will be at the Western that weekend.

In 2012, the Driller's will be June 23-24 weekend followed by the Western June 28th to July 2nd. This way, you can make both of these matches if you so desire and get a little trigger time in before the Western (main event).

Sure would be nice to see at least 15 shooters for the 2011 match so the club breaks even on this after prizes and paying the target crew. Any more shooters want in, lots of room still and like I said, a great venue for a new shooter to get his feet wet at.

I can speak from personal experience that this is an excellent match!

This year we had the perfect storm to screw everyone match-wise. On the same weekend, we have the BC Tac rifle match (the biggest in Canada) the Western Canadian FCC, The Eastern Canadian FCC and the Drillers.
While it is great to have so many choices, it will unfortunatly dilute participation everywhere.

Well, there is only 61 days left before this match (July 2nd) and to date, we only have 3 pre-paid entries (which does not surprise me with the Western on in AB the same weekend) and one of the 3 pre-paid is a new member to the SPRA.

Based on all of this, the match is still going ahead and we will probably only get 8-10 guys tops and the club will loose money on this (but it does on a lot of other shoots too) so Pre-Regsitration is no longer required. I will buy food for the Saturday supper for 10 guys and get the awards (12 medals engraved for the grp/scr Sat morning portion and money cards for the remaining) lined up asap. Another small change for this year's Driller's is that we will have IBM 300 YD targets for the Group/Score portion of the Driller's. This will make the group measuring easier and you get to keep your targets after if you wish, plus you may even see you group forming since the target is no all black like the big 'ol meatball we shoot at today. The score rings on the new target is a 10 ring score system so the score will not be directly comparable to the prior Driller's score values, which was shot on a 5 ring target (300M DCRA).

SPRA Range info update...
There is still a little work that has to be done on the target system as well for the new year. On the weekend, we got all 6 frames up and running smoothly but we have to add a limit strap to each frame so no metal from the frames do not show above the line of sight (we used pallets on the weekend to stop them from going to high in the air), plus we have to set up the reds/green flag systems at the butts still and fix the bigger red flag on top of the berm (that one has been broken for a few years now) and possibly add new ropes for all the flag poles (they shrunk some over the winter). The range road is pretty good other than one stream crossing (trucks can get thru, but cars can't) that should be gone by mid May and I think we should add a culvert pipe to the damn we made when we filled in the hole you drove thru to get to the short range side (600 yd crossing) before it washes out too.

What time on Friday can people start showing up? Will there be any opportunity to shoot some practice shots Friday evening?

I will be at the range to open the gate Saturday morning around 6 am.
Signing reg/safety etc at 7:00 to 7:45 or earlier...
S/B going at 8am.... if the target pullers come early... hummm. Probably more like 9...

Keith

UPDATE: Well, the match when off well but only had 8 shooters (6 FO and 2 FTR).
Good weather, no rain and lots of sun and tricky fish tailing winds that would swing from 9 am all the way to 3 pm.
I did not solicit vendors for door prizes this year since I will have to next year for the Westerns at Nokomis.
AC Douglas donated a prize for the winner of the Mini Palma, a $150 inch lb torque wrench from Brownell/Sinclair's when I was at his shop last year, but since we did not hold the match in 2010, I made this a prize for 2011 and told the shooters that the winner of the mini palma would get it. Got lucky and I won this award by one point over Brian Rowe so I sold my old wrench (worth $60) to another shooter, Orrin, for $10.

Hope to see lots of people out for our Provincial Prize match on July 24-26 2011

Keith,

OT but what date is your shoot in Sept?

If it happens to be the weekend before the John Howard in AB I am thinking of coming out and then hitting AB on the way back.

Looks like I may make both of those shoots...I will keep you posted though.

Any chance of a Gopher slaughter with anyone on the Tues/Wed or Thurs if I make it out there? Or are the little dirt pigs asleep by then?

Will have to find something to do for a few days in between. Will be camping in the truck box (or sleeping in the Nokomis Clubhouse) as it costs twice as much in fuel to drag the fornicatorium behind the truck.

Might have to grab a hotel room or pilfer someones bathroom to have a shower though. :)
