hey folks one of my 5-20 mags is squirting out the 5th round into the mag well instead of feeding it into the chamber. So what Iam wondering is should I look at closing the feed lips up a bit to try to hold the round better? seems when the 4th round is fired bolt stays open as the last round wont stay in the mag. is this common?

Nope, shouldn't be like that at all. Two cents;

- be careful bending the mag feed lips, it can create problems on top of problems you already have, leading to a high level of frustration.
- are the mag lips already bent/damaged? Kind of sounds like it. Compare to another mag...
- is the fifth round the first out of the mag? So, top round pops out, leaving four in the mag, then when empty the bolt is locked back?

I'd try another mag first, if possible. In the gun, and to compare. Again, careful if you're going to try bending the mag lips.

ETA: ah, upon rereading your post, seems the last round pops out, i.e.: bang bang, bang, bang (round pops out of mag), hold open engaged.

I wonder also if the mag body has become widened, enlarged, imagine cleaning out the mag with a broomstick.

K, turning this over to the experts, they'll be here soon.

ETA v2.0: not common, so far as I know. Norinco M14's are better known for crappy flash eliminators.

lol at the cleaning out with a broom handle. This is a brandnew mag and the other that I have works fine but both are a bit of a hassle to get into the gun and locked in place. I am new to this platform and find it a bit of jockeying thing to get the mag in at the right angle and proprely locked inplace. but once in good to go. And yes bang bang bang bang wtf oh push round back into mag and load last round. more of an annoyance than any real life isues here but it would be nice to go bang 5 times then reload .

If it's only the 5th round and the 4th locks the bolt open, I'd suspect the follower and/or its spring isn't right. Tweaking the mag lips(that's not hard to do) won't help and might bugger up the mag for the first 4. It work ok with just 4?
Either contact the place you bought the mag or replace the follower and spring.

I had that issue with one of my mags. Ended up shaping the lips to a known good mag's shape with a good pair of needle nose pliers. YMMV
