Hello,
I tried doing a search on GunNutz and Googled it, I could not find my answers. So here goes...
1. Is this round really any better than the 5.56 round?
2. Is there a rifle other than the AK74 that fires it. If so is there a rifle that a GunNut can own that fires it.:D

Thanks for the help
Eric

Wasn't there an East German bolt action rifle chambered in 5.45x39mm that was imported in small numbers into Canada?

Yes, by Century Arms. Used by East German border guards. Rifle was not unlike an Anschutz target rifle.

I think the actual measurment is 5.45 x 39.5 is it not? An interesting little cartridge, very long bullet, overall length about the same as 5.56 x 45 (NATO). I have a couple in my collection.

i know its a long shot... but lets say when the 7.62 stuff starts to dry up, would it be possible to import surplus 5.45 and just rebarrel vz/cz models? i know its a costly and time consuming thing... but would it be possible in the end?

but isint the base specs the same as a 7.62x39? and therefor the mag would hold the rounds as well?

correction... bases are different so you would have to rebolt

At $274 for 2160 rounds, I wouldn't have any trouble buying a lifetime supply.

Still huge production numbers I'm sure.
Nothing like x39. No one is interested in adaopting the 5.45 cartridge, and there are no surplus stocks outside those few countries. The only thing is the the only market for surplus is a smallish one in the US.

I plan on buying and upper for the AR from S&W if only as a curiosity.
