5.56 Bolt action offerings?

Are there any other 5.56 eating (mfg approved) rifles out there other than the Ruger or Mossberg models?

There's not many Bolt Guns Chambered in 5.56 NATO that I'm aware of, but it really depends on what 5.56X45 you plan on shooting. If you were shooting 55 gr Ball it really doesn't matter what the stamp on the barrel says if it's a new rifle, esp. with a 1 in 9" twist, or faster. If you are going to shoot 62 gr Ball I'd stick with the Ruger with it's 1 in 8" twist. I'm sure a few will pipe up and say I'm full of it, but a 62 gr FMJ isn't going to stabilize well at lower elevations in cold weather out of a short 1 in 9" twist barrel. 75/77 gr should be good in a 1 in 9", anything heavier 1 in 8", or even better 1 in 7".

I'd have no problem shooting 5.56 NATO in any new production Bolt Action. Any load with a longer Projectile like a 62 gr FMJ, I'd just try a few, and check for pressure, if there's none I'd consider that load safe.

Not a bolt action but the new Maple Ridge Armory Renegade is a Pull Action and if you have an AR already you can just strip it down for the parts and build it you just need the receiver set. It is actually pretty neat and I am enjoying mine a lot more then I expected !

I'm very happy with the Remington 700 SPS Tactical that I bought late last year. I've been able to shoot .75 moa a few times at 200 yards with factory PMC .223 55gr ammo.

That doesn't answer the question about 5.56mm ammo. Are you saying that PMC is 5.56mm?

Be careful on what you chose if you want to use it for long range shooting.

Many 223 actions are only designed to fed and eject a short SAMMI spec length round.

If you want to use the rifle for long range, you will want to shoot heavy bullets seated longer than many mags can feed and many actions can eject.

I built my 223 on a Defiance Deviant which is a Rem 700 clone, but thats not to suggest its the ideal choice but it does eject rounds of 308 length which is all I need to eject the 2.640" long rounds I feed it.

The next trick is finding a mag that can feed such a long round. For that I use Accurate Mag, because its easy to take the plastic inserts out and mill them to increase the round length.

So ya, 90 grainers feed from a mag at 2.640" and hit 2900 FPS with a 0.600 G1 BC with diddly squat for recoil.

As for the Defiance vs other Rem 700 clones, I'm drawn toward Big Horn because they have an action without an ejector spring. The problem is that the Defiance is denting the case mouth at ejection and messing with my concentricity. The Big Horn uses the rearward motion to kick the shell from the rim once it clears the ejection port, so no neck damage. Yes I do plan to weaken the ejector spring on my Defiance, but thats not required with the Big Horn.

If you go this way... Whoever barrels it up for you will need to use a 1.5 degree throat and set the throat long enough for the base of the bearing surface to be forward of the donut.

Exactly , my .223 BT112 Palma rifle came factory built with a Wylde chamber and a long action way back when, and it was built that way for a reason

Edit note: The BT112 above (that is now in my son's possesion) was not chambered with a Wylde reamer but was a custom job that is comparable to a Wylde . It will handle 80 grain bullets with ease , however.
This was in 1992 or thereabouts .
