Hey guys. really need some advice from someone smarter than me, people who know barrels, head clearance, 5.56 and maybe Type 97, so I thought I'd post here asking for opinions, advice and maybe help.
I don't actually know if I have a serious problem or I'm an idiot worrying over a non-issue.
Anyway, got a good deal on a Gen 2, all seemed well, until noticed the right side of the chamber had a chamfer in it that I don't think should be there. Decided to see how much it affected the chamber support, so I removed the striker, bolt and bolt carrier and inserted a dismantled casing (no powder or bullet in it) to check how much case was exposed.

The thing is, I don't know if I need to be worried about it or if this is an acceptable tolerance for 5.56 or for this rifle. The length of the visible part I am concerned about, from chamber to the first ridge where case body ends, is about 0.060"-0.065" (I believe the visible part is roughly half that on the other side, as the chamfer there seems smaller, but I'm guesstimating). I will try to include a picture for a better visual of what I am talking about. Fist shot regular, second a closeup that probably exaggerates the issue just because it's zoomed in so much, and last is me trying to scratch the casing for a rough visual of the amount what I can see on the right side.

If someone more knowledgeable about .223/5.56 round and the T97 platform can let me know if this is within tolerances for cartridge/platform or if I shouldn't shoot it and take it straight to a gunsmith, please let me know, I would be very appreciative, as I'm not sure if I should worry or not at this point. Thank you.

AR15 rifles have a cartridge protrusion of at least 1/8”, more depending on the size of the leade into the chamber. That looks to be less than that, so I wouldn’t worry.

Just a factory AE 5.56 case

From what I've seen that's pretty much the norm.

The bolt is designed to cover the protruding base of the cartridge.

Those rifles weren't intended to use reloads IMHO and are usually very hard on brass.

Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience, gentlemen, it definitely added some peace of mind to my initial concerns.

With regard to Justin needing to be voted out of office, I couldn't agree more.
