5.56 rifle non restricted

What are your guys opinions on which is a well build non restricted 5.56 Nato to buy. It would be great if it was a Ar 15 look but it wont be a deal braker either if its not.

If you've got deep enough pockets (for the non-restricted tax, LOL) and aren't afraid to build your own then have a look at Alberta Tactical Rifle Supply's Modern Sporter receiver set.
 
Took my WK to the range and it shot great...i also manged to jump the preorder line and snatch one up from a site sponsor! Unfortunately they are selling them faster than they can build them.
 
SU 16 uses ar 15 mags close to the same dimensions as a AR , light , good shooters .
Can be hard to find ,not a gun that you can beat up and throw around ,can be finicky to reasemable .
They fold in half , some models have built in bypods, you can get different stocks ( bepending on models ) slightly cheeper than a Ar gun .
Other than the finicky reasemable I have had little regrets it has cycled all different ammo that I have tryed . Easy gun to shoot .
 
Honestly, if you're just getting into this try and grab a WK180-C.

DO NOT sign up for a pre-order anywhere!!! Keep checking in here regularly and every once in a while a dealer will post that they have a few available. But so far you gotta be quick.

If your pockets are deeper pick up a good used Robinson Armament XCR-L or a Bushmaster ACR.

If your pockets are even deeper and you have an appreciation for nicer things keep your eyes open for an ATRS Modern Varmint or a completed Modern Sporter build.

And if you want the best answer to your question, just buy an ATRS Modern Sporter receiver set and build your own just the way you like it. But you better order a receiver set FAST because the cut off for the next production run is April 15th. After that you'll either be waiting an awful long time for one OR paying a hefty premium on the EE.
 
Thank you for your answers guys, i am not just getting into it. I have a love of rifles but nothing in 5.56. I don't know something about the WK180-C doesn't seat well with me. i was looking at the tavors but not the Bushmasters or the Armanent. i am gonna check them out for sure. Thank you

If you look into the XCR-L do NOT an get an early generation with the quad rail forend. Gen 2 with the keymod forend and anything newer and your good to go.

Also with the Bushmaster stay away from the DMR version.
 
Also check EE for a WK180C. I sold mine there for $1100 after paying $995; I had been in on a preorder from last February. But it just turned out to be a bit too chunky for my liking. I will be building a Stag 10 soon and maybe a Modern Sporter eventually.

My only reasoning is because the WK180-C is finally starting to become available (albeit intermittent) and the possibility of buying one "off the shelf" now exists. There is absolutely no reason to pre-order the WK.

At this point there is no end to waiting in sight with the ATRS. I'd like to be able to buy another "off the shelf" right now if I could but reality says that's not going to happen. In this case you either wait in line whether you like it or not, pay a premium for a set off the EE or simply do without. Awfully glad I ordered the ones I did when I did.

I do however agree with you that the whole pre-order thing sucks. There is the odd time where I knew if I wanted it there was no other choice and the MS is one of them.

it is how many businesses have chosen to do business, if we as consumers all said no, make the product and then we buy, this idea of having to put money down before someone starts making something would never has gone as far as it has.

Another way to look at it is...... Businesses that take pre payment for items before buying materials or tooling up for full production, have done away with needing investors if they can not fund the costs themselves. But turning the consumer into the investor and often the beta testers for their products only benefits them, there is no return for the consumer like a traditional investor would see for their money being used by the company during that same time.

The ATRS Modern Sporter and MDI SLR are the closest AR like non-restricted options. But they're expensive, and you'll have to wait.

ATRS seems to be sticking to their timeline pretty well, so it looks like fall of this year if you order today I think? Quality looks good though, people are happy with them.

MDI is a crapshoot for delivery times. I've had mine for about 6 months after waiting a year. Lol it was "2 more weeks" for about 4 months. Some guys are STILL waiting, having ordered over a year ago. They have their early run quality issues ironed out, but who the hell knows when you'll get one if you order now. If you can even find a dealer that's still doing orders.

The WK180-C looks like a good option for a lower budget. They're having some minor issues I think, but that's to be expected with a large volume lower cost gun I guess.

I don't mind putting down a partial deposit on something that is A) a proven product and B) in high demand with a waiting list. The pre-order is also to ensure that the manufacturer knows he will be able to sell his entire production run; this is especially important for a Canada-specific product line like the Modern Sporter. No one in the USA or any other country that treats AR15's normally is going to buy one. Also, if the money wasn't there up front to pay for raw materials, the production runs might have to be smaller and, thus, more expensive. Or the manufacturer is debt-financing the production, also resulting in higher costs/prices. So the buyer IS getting something in return for his up-front money - a lower price. And the chance to avoid the queue that would stretch around the block (figuratively) if you could reserve a spot in line with no cash payment. That said, I don't do full-price pre-orders nor pre-orders for products that only exist as a prototype (no finalized production version to check out); that's just where I draw the line.
