I know this has been beaten more than a dead horse but I just had to checkwith Ruger.

Is it safe to fire 5.56 ammo in my mini-14?

Ruger Mini-14's have 5.56mm chambers and are designed to use either 5.56 or .223 factory ammunition loaded to United States industry specifications except in the Target model. Also may be called 5.56 x .45.

Actually they are right. They told you they have 5.56 chambers. If they said they had 223 chambers and could use 5.56/223 then you can make the statement you did.

And do you know why they've said except in the target model...!? Because it's chambered in .223...
