I've done a search and couldn't find a debate on this before. I left the military just as we changed from the C1 to the C7. I liked the FN and thought the C7 was more like a toy gun. That being said I only shot it twice. So 20 years later what does everyone think. Stopping power, Range, weight, ect?

I'm a gunner so weight and length are more important. Weight is just fine, but I'll be happy to get the A2 as it has a C8 buttstock. Much handier in vehicles.

Accuracy is fine, I shoot the C7 better than the C1 ( Yep, I've been around since before the C7) , plenty of range for my job too. Can't say about stopping power, I've never had to shoot anyone.

My two cents

7.62 is a bit harder on the shoulder than 5.56 it is probably much easier to teach the recruits how to shoot straight with a 22 than a 30 cal.

As for terminal ballistics someone put up a sticky for that somewere.

There's no such thing as 'stopping power'. No round gives 100% guaranteed one shot stops. Not even a 7.62 ball round.
A net search for this topic will turn up all kinds of sites with this endless, time wasting debate. You can carry lots more 5.56 than 7.62 though.
"...7.62 is a bit harder on the shoulder than 5.56..." Not out of a semi-auto or MG.
"...drill with the C2..." Who you serve with that had LMG's on parade? Just curious.

I did drill with the rifle I had and sometimes that was the C2 I remeber the bipod poping open a couple of time.
I never had it on parade but I did do drill with it.

Overall, I prefer the C7. Lighter, easier to carry, carry more ammo. I used to shoot well with the C1 but it was a pig to carry all day....

I can say that they are definately two different anaimals.... but your question was specificly to the round.

I can't remember where I got this, but there was some info out floating around that claimed there was tests done pitting the two rounds against each other.
To the best of my memory, both rounds performed very similar in the tests, water, plate steel, cinder block, velosity at distance (I think) But where the 762 left the 556 behind was the performance on sand bags

As I said, going off the top of my head...... and a number of years back...
