Has anyone had the pleasure of sourcing one of these rare unicorns in Canada? I have been searching off and on for a couple years for one with zero hope. They are all located on the US side of the border and the postal service wants $34 US ransom to bring it to me. The cheapskate in me is not willing to pay that much. So my question here today is, Have any of you ever seen one of these rare birds? did you have to smuggle it from the US in your rectum to get it home? Whats the deal? With the popularity of these rifles you would figure a business on this side of the border would be willing to stock them so people would be able to use their Garands hunting...

Yes in Nova Scotia i must use a magazine limited to 5 rounds. I cant just eject 3 or install 3 snap caps in the mag. This is not an option. It HAS to be a 5 round or less clip.

anyway. My fingers are crossed someone here has caught rumour of their existence here.

You can make your own, 1 round, 2 rounds, 5 rounds, whatever you want, google it, a few strategic cuts with a dremel and some bends and there you go.

as far as my understanding goes, the garand has a unique status and the CO that I came across new and under stood this. I had 8 rounds in my rifle and there were no problems.
also you could just insert enbloc, cycle action manually to remove 3 rounds and your good to go.

Brownell’s and Creedmore Sports to name two that will ship USPS to Canada.
I’ve made them and they are more trouble than what it’s worth.

The M1 Garand is named as an exception to the 5-shot rule. The old NFA sled dog Dave Tomlinson might get the credit for keeping that one off the list.

I may be wrong but I believe the enblocs are still allowed as the Garand is a firearm of " historical significance" Ontario hunting regs say only 5 rds and the local COs in my hunting area of Ontario go by that. I made 2 5 rounders for hunting when I used mine.
Just my 2 cents

The Garand is an exception to the FA rule of 5 round magazines for centerfire semi-auto rifles. But provincial hunting regs of max 5 round mags while hunting big game with a semi-auto still apply. Thus you cannot use 10-rd pistol magazines while hunting with your Stag 10 even though they are otherwise legal to own and use. That is, if your province has that mag capacity limit in the hunting regs. Many US states also have a mag capacity restriction while hunting.

OP has stated NS mandates 5 rd capacity for hunting.

Other jurisdictions have different regulations.

Hunting Regs. They differ province to province I think if I remember right the only one allowed in most provinces for more then 5 rounds was the lee-enfield. That may have changed.

I found a single online a couple years ago was told it was for competition shooting. was told by an rcmp that for range shooting garands were fine using 8 and if hunting to just cycle out 3 to keep 5 in the block and you were fine.

When this thread started, I took the time to read the ON hunting regulations. The only reference for centerfire semi auto rifles is compliance with federal law.

OP is in NS. He is looking for 5 rd. clips.

I would suggest Brownells. They use a shipping system to Canada that is not punitive.

One of these things is not like the other. Or, more relevantly, the legislation.

To be plain - there's no prohibition on magazines greater than five rounds in the NS Wildlife Act or Regulations. It's only mentioned in the regulation summary.
