wanted for a shooting pal down in central Oregon. For reasons that might seem inexplicable to some, he seems determined to find one, preferably the genuine article. Sooooo, if anyone here has one, or can point me at one, I'd be very grateful.

PM me if you're embarrassed!

TIA

If he wants I'll swap the one that came with my Parker Hale Supreme No.4 for an original No.4 or No.5 ten round magazine, but it might not work in an SMLE. It's marked SANTA FE MAGAZINE MADE IN JAPAN. Looks like an original Lee Enfield magazine cut down, and it works, but it only holds five rounds. All my ten round magazines can hold five rounds just as well, but they also can hold more than five so I like them better.

Thanks for the replyments, Gentlemen. I'll ask him now, bearing in mind that he lives eight hours behind me.

@TheTooner - I suppect that he'll want the real deal, being a rich 'mercan. But thank you for the offer. I'll copy this and send it to him.

@Carlos - that I don't know.

Best to all

Parker-Hale had converted 10rd mags too I believe. They are around but if you find one they aren't cheap. I assume you mean the double stacked SMLE mag and not a 5 round single stacked? A few years ago I found one of these and I think it cost me about $100

A No. 1 SMLE magazine is different than a #4 magazine - the No. 1 has two "bumps" and spring on rear edge, extras can be ground of for use in a #4, but #4 not easily converted to use in No. 1. There would be no "original" No. 1 or No. 4 five round magazines - AFAIK all were manufactured and issued with 10 round magazines. Many companies (Parker Hale, BSA, Santa Fe) had the 10 round cut off and "re-bottomed" to make 5 rounders. Was, and still is, a very viable "home gunsmithing" project for someone who can MIG / TIG / braze.

Trust me on this one, $100 is cheap. There is, I'm told, a gentleman in Australia making them for A$200 a pop. I'm fully expecting somebody here in yUK to tell me that £250 for a real one is a not-unreasonable price.

Some of the original 5 round LE mags have a slight fish belly on the bottom and have a slight tail on the bottom of the back of the mag just before the hole in the base.

Most of the flat base ones I have held and seen are not original factory ones and are modified 10 round mags.

This is what I mean by what a original one looks like -
