5 Stand Sporting Clays

Does anyone have (or can find) the dimensions requird for a 5 stand sporting clays range?

I need the whole kit and caboodle including shot fall area.
 
I don't believe there is any set dimensions for a 5 stand range. You can set up the stations and the machines as you see fit, so long as it's safe. I've seen 5 stand where they have the stations at different elevations even.

As for shot fallout probably the CFO would be able to give you that, if your limiting to 7.5 shot, you probably need between 200 and 300 yards, as 7.5's max yardage is in that 200 range.

Hopefully someone else comes along with more definitive answers for you.
 
I can't see why not, we shoot our trap and 5 stand from the same general place, just we line up the stations in a line at about the 21 yard mark, instead of in a semi circle.

The only thing is you can't shoot trap and sporting clays at the same time, but we use the trap machine as one of the sporting clays throwers. We have one from behind, the trap house, a teal from in front of the trap house, a crosser and rabbit from the right, and a crosser from the left.

We are talking about adding more machines in yet. Thats the nice part, you can grow the 5 stand as funds are available, you don't have to have 6 throwers or more off the start.

Absolutely. Actually, you can use the skeet and trap machines as 3 of your machines. Set the stands where the trap shooters shoot from. Space them 3-5 metres on centre in a straight line. If you have a wobble trap, you can adjust the trap shot. The skeet machines can be moved as well as long as you mark them so you can put them back exactly where they were.

Add 3 more machines and you have a regulation 5 stand. Ours has 8 machines.

You are supposed to have a tower throwing from behind the shooting line to be regulation. Go here http://mynsca.com/downloads/2010 Rule book.pdf for the rules, page 38 I think it is.

There is another game very similar to 5 stand called Compak sporting which has slightly different rules.

Go to mynsca.com, click rules then get the 2007 rule book. Look up International Compak Sporting and they have a complete field lay out.

If you are already CFO cleared for Skeet and Trap on that template, you _SHOULD_ be good to go.

You can make use of the 3 machines you already have in place. Maybe you want to add wobble bases on some or all of the 3 (to keep the targets sporting...)

We have a similar (w/o the trap overlay) setup in Ottawa. We have portable cages (so you can move them and still shoot skeet, and in your case trap simply by moving the cages out of the way).

We added a rabbit machine behind the high house, and a teal machine a few yards out in the infield. We wired up a standard trap further out in the outfield to throw birds inwards. We also build a wooden tower behind the field to throw the overhead birds.

We put up wooden bunkers around the machines in the outfield for protection.

Ideally you would design something with an element of portability so that you could change the course around (this is a lot easier if you plan for that possibility prior to installation).

You don't need to buy every machine to start with. You can add them over time if there is sufficient demand.

It can be a hell of a lot of fun. I often spend time there after the competitive season has completed for me.
