i am looking at the Hornady LNL AP to load .45 colt
i am just getting started & am confused about the stations?
what is a Lock-Out die?

if i loaded .308 or .300 rifle rounds would the stations be different?

mark

ps should i just get a set of Hornady .45 dies with the press?

A basic configuration for bottleneck rifle would be resize, powder charge, bullet seat, 2 stations empty.

A basic setup for straight wall would be resize, expand, powder charge, bullet seat, 1 station empty.

You could condense this by using a powder through expander die to do both functions at one station.

You can use the extra stations to add the optional dies, such as:
- specialty crimp die
- Dillon power case trimmer (do they still make this?)
- powder cop (makes sure the case received a reasonable powder charge)

I don't know what a lock-out die does. I have been researching the LNL AP myself, but haven't yet buckled to the temptation.

Be aware that many people are reporting some dies don't work in the 5th station without modification.

Don't know the LNL but for the 650

1- Deprime/Size
2- Bell/Prime/Powder
3- open (for powder check)
4-seat
5- crimp
for my competition loads I move the seating and crimping die back and use a factory crimp die in the last station... since i will take out the wrinkles I sometimes get in my 38 special HBWC

3-seat
4- crimp
5- factory size

Lockout = Powdercop
