does anyone know where in canada i can pick up some cheaper ammo for my .50? the only place in Calgary i could find it is Wholesale sports and i had to pay $55 per 20 round box......i really dont want to reload cause it says in the manual the Eagle doesnt like reloads but i dont wanna spend $100 dollars a day on ammo either? anyone here tell of getting it cheaper? or can give me a good place to ask? thank you:runaway:

Alot of gun manufacturers don't recommend reloads for their guns and I don't know why, I can guess......but if i were you I would disregard the warning, find some components and start reloading, you'll save a bundle...I don't know much about this gun but if it's gas operated, I wouldn't use cast bullets in it and there goes your best chance to save a bundle on ammo!

Slavex reloads for his DE .50AE and he doesn't have any functioning issues.

BTW, As said above, most manufacturers don't recomend shooting reloads due to the liability factor.\

Not all reloaders arew cautious and diligent............

I also heard the DE is picky on ammo but surely one could handload reliable rounds after a few experiments.

Reloading would be cheaper down the road though still somewhat expensive. I know I would shoot .45ACP and 30-06 all day but I settle for 9mm and .223 most of the times to keep the cost down.

You could go from a 75$ Lee single stage to a 2000$ Dillon 1050. Both will do the same job, but the more expensive one will do it faster.

You'll also need a scale and a caliper (dial or digital).

I reload for my DE but it is a 44 magnum. I have had no problems as long as I don't try to load too light (relative term).

It's nice to be able to shoot the 50 AE but as you know the cost is quite high. Why not get a second barrel in 44 magnum?

My cost to reload for the 44 is $0.30 per round.

Bullets are $20 per 100 for the 44, I see wholesale Sports selling 50 cal bullets for $40 per 100. Add three cents per primer then the powder and you might be paying 50 cents per round. I hope you kept all the 50 AE brass you shot.

I believe the Desert Eagles are gas operated so you may have to use jacketed or semi-jacketed bullets. Lee Precision has .50 AE dies for around $30 . Try www. higginsonpowders.com and request a LEE PRECISION catalog and their price list. They also list .500 S&W caliber HORNADAY bullets

Not may but must shoot jacketed (unless you want to clog up the gas system).

I shoot handloads as well in my 50AE and they function very well and are accurate to boot. Stick to near maximum loads though as they will tend to work a lot better.

If I didn't reload for it, I couldn't afford to shoot it much. What you'll spend in reloading gear/components will soon pay for itself as opposed to feeding it factory ammo.

"...cheaper ammo for my .50?..." No such thing. Not enough demand to bring the price of factory ammo down.
"...it says in the manual..." Nearly all firearm manuals say that. It's a CYA thing for the manufacturers. They don't want to be sued by some twit who failed to religiously follow his loading manual and blew up his pistol.
Reloading is the way to go. Mind you, jacketed bullets aren't cheap either.
