Has anyone here tried reloading for the 50 CF rolling block pistol. Also known as 50-25-300 or just 50-25.

Does anyone makes dies for this?

It's shorter then a 50/70 case if it's the one I'm thinking of. I may be wrong but I think they also chambered a Cadet rifle in it. Years ago Dixie had original barrels for sale.

I recall reading an article where the cases were made from .50-70 cases (or.50-90), but I have no experience myself.

"Black Powder Annual 2005" Page 16. (magazine)

"Cartridge Conversions for the .50-70"

Original Specs For the .50 Navy or Army Pistol:

Case length - .86"
Rim Dia. - .66"
OAL cartridge Length - 1.28"
Bullet weight - 300 grain lead RN
Bullet Dia. .510"
Black Powder Charge - 25 grains ffg with card wads to fill airspace for slightly compressed charge, if needed.)
(Do NOT use smokeless powder in any amount.)

Dies for .50 Remington Pistol available from Buffalo Arms USA for $142.00 USD. (CH4D- maker)
Accurate Molds can supply a bullet mold of just about any size.
Their catalog lists #51-285E that would work well (RNFP) 285 grains of wheel weights, measuring .512" dia. (Iron, alum., brass options)
Heavier cast of pure lead, which it should be.

The article mentions that neck-reaming may be necessary for short cases based on the .50 rifle brass cases, in order that the neck external dimension not be too thick on loaded rounds.
Mainly you cut the cases down, file the ends smooth, and then use a case trimmer to finish to length, and chamfer.

It also warns that bore size can vary, so you would need to slug your bore and measure the result to decide on your ordered bullet mold diameter.
A chamber cast would probably be wise to confirm the actual length and diameter of cartridge needed.
An unreamed dummy round would tell you if the round would chamber without reaming, I think.

Thanks. That seems like a lot of work.
