I was cruising around looking at AR stocks and I came across this: "http://ww w.hical.ca/apps/webstore/products/show/2862825". Looks like a CTR but it just says AR style stock, no mention of Magpul or anything. First I thought maybe it was their PTS airsoft stuff, but I'm pretty sure PTS stocks wont fit an AR buffer tube. They also have a SOPMOD style stock and what looks like Magpul MBUS sights at the same price.

Heard good things about Hical, seems strange that they don't give much if any detail about their stuff though. Anyway, just thought I'd pass my findings on to you guys.

I heard the chinese copies are garbage, and the PTS stuff, while better than the chinese copies, are still not the quality of the real thing..

If it looks like magpul, but it's super cheap.. you're not going to get magpul..

PTS stocks may well fit AR receiver extension tubes. I bought a PTS magpul PRS and it came with the parts to fit both milspec and commercial extension tubes. Works great on my AR.

Really? I might have to try that, always thought some of the digital camo CTRs where cool looking. Does it wobble at all? Does it have a cheap plastic feel?

No wobble at all. I'd say its 80% regular PRS, with the -20% on the cheaper butt plate and adjustment mechanism (still made of steel thread and shaft and aluminum wheels). Cost me $85 shipped from China. It's every bit as sturdy as the A2 stock its replacing. If you screw the adjustable butt plate out too far, you can make it wiggle, but that's not a problem. ebay dealer was 724shopcom

An Ar-15 A2 or PRS stock fits over the receiver's extension tube. It in no way jeopardizes the operation or safety of the firearm. I bought the PTS stock thinking I'd use it on my 10-22, but its so solid, I'm using it on my AR-15. There's no way its weaker than the A2 stock. I have some real magpul stuff, and it looks and feels like the same plastic. I think they just cheapened the butt plate and adjustment knobs on the PTS version, but in any event you are not going to break a heavy steel shaft and aluminum adjustment wheel in circumstances that would't brake an A2 stock.

I have to agree. The whole quality arguement over plastic parts, is like arguing over the vintage of box wine.

I disagree completely. What you said is like saying there's no difference between different grades and types of steel. Some polymers are quite strong and resilient, while others will shatter or deform easily. You can't tell by how it "feels", only by how it actually performs. I have no doubt that the knockoffs, although they feel like the genuine ones, are not of the same quality as the genuine Magpul items. Whether this will impact how your rifle performs at the range is a different discussion.

Correct, and at the end of the day I'd rather buy top notch stuff for my gun instead of garbage that won't last or may become a safety issue...

It's interesting though because sometimes you see guns in the EE decked out with airsoft gear and some people don't know they're paying extra money for some knock off add-ons that are not worth it.

It depends on the copy, not whether or not it is a copy. Plenty of "authentic" plastic bits look and feel like crap, as do poor copies. Keep in mind, we are not talking about optics or complicated concepts, we are talking about molding plastic componants out of appropriate material, even the chinese can manage that.;)

Let me get this correct.

Chinese copies of ARs are great and anyone who pays three times as much for a N Amercan built rifle is a fool but Chinese copies of AR parts like Magpul are crap and anyone who pays 1/3 as much for a copy is a fool?

Hookay. Seems like typical solid CGN logic to me.

So you're assuming that the cheap Chinese airsoft knockoff is moulded out of an appropriate material for use on a real firearm? I don't think I'm going out on a limb by saying that you are making a brazen assumption.

Thanks Grizzlypeg, checking out their stuff now. As far as quality goes I'm just going to be building a CMMG .22, so it doesn't necessarily have to have top end stuff on it. I have no doubt that real Magpul gear is better than the PTS stuff, but as long as there is no wobble and it does its job I'm happy. Now if I was buying a Noveske I wouldn't bother putting PTS accessories on it, though with the money they cost I'm not sure I'd be able to afford much else. ;)

If it helps at all I will be buying a genuine MOE trigger guard. :)

The one difference I'll point out is that the Nork AR copy is built as an actual rifle, while the knockoff stocks are built for airsoft. This does have an impact on material selection, among other things.

Let me correct you.

Airsoft guns shoot little plastic balls at 300fps. When you buy a $30 Airsoft part, it's not just a matter of cheap labour, it's made from different material than the $100 part. The real stuff is made for real military applications, not for fat kids with fake guns shooting plastic bits.

Let me know when you try a Chinese Airsoft gun vs a Chinese military rifle and can't tell the difference..

We're just explaining the difference between parts and wasn't hoping to offend you. If knock off Airsoft parts work on your gun and you're happy to each their own.
