Any place in Toronto, Barrie, Orillia (I'm in Keswick) where there is a range long enough to shoot a Barrett .50 Cal? (2000-3500 meters)

I doubt there is any place in CANADA that has a dedicated 3500 meter range. In fact, I bet there isn't even a DND range that long.

2000-3500 meter shooting in general is laughable.

Let Me Rephrase

OK...my point maybe could have been clearer..

Where would one fire a .50 cal rifle in the Orillia, Barrie area?

I wasn't trying to come across as stupid, but I obviouly did. Can you also be helpful and explain why it would be laughable? See the new guy Description under my avitar?

Sorry, normally when you get a 'new guy' on here asking where you can shoot a 'barret .50 cal' at 3000m, it screams mall ninja/airmchair commando.

I shouldn't say laughable, as it IS possible, just not really likely or feasible for the average shooter.

So you don't have any range ideas for Ontario.

No worries. I've been noob in allot of hobbies and I am used to the reception, it still doesn't stop me from asking :)

Anyone else? If you had an AR50 where would you go to try and experience it's potential?

And isn't the record in Afghanistan some ~2.4km?

I think so. Not really sure how far a .50 will go tho, so I added a bit in to be safe.

Don't assume I'm trying to hit something at 3500M.

You'd need a lot of land... there are some fifty shooters on this site, so do a search and find out who has them, and then shoot them a PM.

Didn't mean to give you a crappy reception, so welcome to the site either way!

I do not know if CFC Borden's ranges are approved for .50. Mons Range has firing points to 1 000 yards. That would be the longest range in the Barrie/Orillia area.
This is one of the biggest problems with having a .50 - where do you shoot the thing? To 1 000 yards/900m, there are any number of other calibers that shoot more accurately. There are few places where you can shoot at very long range, beyond 1 000 yards. You are in a pretty settled part of Ontario. Even if you could find a long cutline, etc., how would you know where the bullet went? And you better be able to account for where the bullet went, if there is any private property or human beings in the area.
As far as the comment about 2000-3500m shooting goes, use a straight road and your car's odometer to see what that sort of distance looks like. Just about impossible to see a target, let alone observe the reslults of the shot. And you need to know the exact distance, and have very sophisticated range tables or a hand held computer to generate elevations and wind corrections.
Off the top of my head, the Barrenlands in the Arctic are about the only place where you have the sort of visibility and isolation to plink with a .50.

I think Mons Range in Borden will allow .50 cal. The range is only 1000 yards and I doubt there will be a line-up of guys wanting to shoot beside you:D See the Ontario Rifle Association web page for dates and times. I will check this weekend if .50 cal is OK for Mons.

No problem on the range. Being from Keswick, you've got the largest flattest piece of real estate in Ontario at your doorstep, Lake Simcoe. Granted, you wind up sharing it with a few hundred ice fishermen who might not appreciate you setting up your target stand and bench. I recommend several cases of beer to sooth the nerves of those closest to you, and a shooting pad that floats in case the pressure crack opens up under you.

Just a suggestion, but instead of lobbing a round into Orillia, try setting the target in front of the skankiest cottage on Georgina Island, then driving towards Rama to place your bench.

ROTFLMAO... :D:D:D:D:D

There is Sharon gun club at Greenlane and Kennedy which is about 20 minutes from Keswick. They only have a 300 yard range though

It's like $1000 first year (includes a share) and then like $340 a year after that.

If you find another range in the area, please let me know as I am looking for a range but I am from Sutton

I seldom see anybody East of Winnipeg posting much about 50bmg rifles.

Just a suggestion that may seem obvious - make sure you get a non-restriced 50 cal and buddy up with some landowners or farmers.

I dont think Sharon allows 50!

I will check. I know they have been shot on the 300 yard range in the past. It's of course possible that on re-inspection the 50 was cut.

I am going to Mons this weekend and one of the things they told me in my intro letter was that you could shoot a .50 at the range at borden, up to 1000m
