.50 Serbu and LAR Grizzlys...

The problem isn't Canada, as stated. The problem is exporting them from U.S.
Serbu makes .510 to bypass the laws into California, purhaps if you get on it you can get one before the gov. catches on.

Are you guys sure?? LAR told me at the SHOT show that they still export to Canada and that it is no longer a problem like it was a couple of years ago. Sometimes it's tough to separate the rumors from the truth. Any dealers out there have a definitive answer?

"No 50 BMG anything to leave the USA" is how I understood it also. And then as I was reading my copy of Small Arms Review on the plane back from the SHOT show, I came across an article that makes me wonder.

SAR, Oct 2005, page 100

House rejects .50 cal Export Ban
The US House of Rep. , in mid-June, overwhelmingly rejected an amendment to a spending bill that would have banned the export of .50 caliber rifles.
The amendment, by Rep. James Moran (D-VA), would have blocked export of the rifles to "non-governmental entities" (meaning consumers). The vote was 278-149.

So... can we, or can't we buy 50 BMG stuff from the US?

You can't. I've even had export permits blocked for .50 300gr speer bullets. Whoever is approving them doesn't necessarily know the difference between .50BMG and .50AE.

.50BMG components will not be approved.

So what does the article refer to then?
Not that I'm arguing with you guys, I am just confused about the SAR report.

There is an issue with projectiles or companonets. yes. There may have been in the past, or may be now, an export ban on .50 caliber rifles outside the US. There is problem with the sale of .50's in Kalifornica. There WAS a ban on high cap magazines, etc. That law disappeared after the 10 year term was up. Perhaps that law included the .50 BMG rifles too. I know that for some time, even muzzle loaders couldn't get here because they were classified as .50 caliber, even though they are not classified as a firearm through ATF. They are flowing over the broder freely now. Perhaps the law has now changed back to allowing .50 BMG to be exported. If they are allowed, then we should all find out for sure so we can take advantage of it before the window of opportunity closes. I will look into it further and report back. If I can get some in, how much interest is there in LAR or Serbu .50's??

The problem is that it's not a law that isn't allowing .50's to be exported from the US, it's a decision made by the US state department.
They don't want to approve export permits, and they don't have to.
If Canadian gunshops can't get them, do you seriously think they would approve one for an individual?

Also Alberta Tactical Rifle, and Dlask may soon get into the market.
Support your Canadian gun makers!

Yeah but were can you get a tack driving .50 for a little over $2000?? I don't see any possibilties of that with Steyr or PGW.
