hey guys, i ordered up some lead 500 grain bullets for my s&w 500. ive got the lyman cast bullet handbook but it only goes as far as 440 gr. so far ive onlyloaded 410 gr bullets from this thing. so im wondering what the OAL should be for these guys and also a powder quantity for the 500 gr using lil gun powder? the book with a 400 gr calls for a 2.00 "oal and says to start t 27.7 gr of lilgun, and for the 440 gr bullet says the oal is to be at 2.010 inch and the starting point for lil gun to be 27.4 gr. so naturally id say to extend it to say 2.020 and start the powder around 27 gr and that should be safe, but then as i look at the 375 gr bullet length its calling for 2.035 " anyways, im wondering what you guys would suggest i do for powder weight and oal. this is what im using for bullets https://www.midwayusa.com/product/182264/cast-performance-bullets-500-s-and-w-magnum-500-diameter-500-grain-lead-long-flat-nose-gas-check-box-of-50

Id use 27 to start and work your way to 30 max of lilgun at 2.065" OAL

seat the bullet to the crimp grove and put a heavy crimp on it. I don't know if i've seen a cast or jacketed bullet for the 500mag without a crimp groove or cannalure. I always seat to that regardless of the load or bullet.

Start at 27gr - 27.5gr of lil'gun and work up. I've gone as much as 30gr for my 500 with a 500gr bullet.

i figured to the top of the crimp was the safest bet as well i just wasnt sure what kind of pressure id deal with if it was seated a bit too deep with that long of a bullet and that much powder. ill give a handful of those a go once they arrive. thanks for the help guys

I used a full vase of IMR-4198 with bullet weights from 350-700 grs. Not the highest MV's, but great accuracy and reasonable recoil.
