500 needs parts

Hello,

I've been given a Mossberg 500 12ga but it needs a new action slide tube assembly. Where do I measure to figure out if it's a 6-3\4" or 7-3\4".

If you're replacing the whole slide tube assembly why does it matter which one you get?

won't both work for the same gun?

I'm not sure...Brownells has a 6-3/4" and a 7-3/4" assembly listed in their catalog and schematics for the 500A

The only differece I can see is that they lengthend the forends on their mil and LE shotguns,and the hunting ones still use the shorter ones ,

if you were just repacing the forend,the wood or plastic furniture,then you'd need to know which one to get, but since you're replaceing the whole slide tube assy,you should be able to use ether.

One more thing are you going for wood or plastic? I think the wood only comes in 6 3/4",but not 100% sure.
