hi, I have done some looking for 500 moulds but the only thing I can find is a 440 gr mould from lee. I have that mould and would like to get another one in a lower weight. Does anyone know another place in canada where I might find some? thanks

Give Win Shooter a shout or PM. I get my cast 500 S&W bullets from him. He has a number of different moulds he uses and may be able to give you a heads up of where & how to get something in line of what you're looking for.

As far as I know there are no bullet mould manufacturers in Canada and if you want a custom mould check with Mountain Molds, you can design your own bullet using his web site, I have 3 of his moulds for my 500 S&W, 400, 440 and 500 grain for casting gas checked bullets and they are excellent as is his service. The lead time is currently 6-10 weeks according to his site as these are custom made moulds according to your specs. With his program you can see the changes you make to the design of the bullet in the bottom left hand corner of the design page. I bought a Lee 440 grain mould and in my opinion it is a total POS, the block is way too small for the size of bullet cast so it heats up too fast and mine won't cast a round bullet as it is impossible to get the two blocks to line up properly, just pure junk.

NEI Handtools has a good selection of molds for the .500 S&W, aluminum but def. a much better mold then Lee, they can make Iron ones as well, anything from 2 cavity to 6. I have and use about 20 of them and have no complaints at all.

You can order a mould direct from Lyman. Not many places stocking moulds in Canada and most of them have Lee anyway.

Bullet #501680 weighs 375 grains with #2 alloy, I would guess a weight of 400 grains when cast with wheel weight metal. The downside is that it is a single cavity, however I doubt you fire hundreds of these hand cannon rounds at a sitting anyway.

Not a bad deal at $72.95 compared to custom and they will probably have it in your hands in a week or two. Lyman makes good moulds, I've got a bunch and they are all well made and cast good bullets. If you need a set of handles drop me a PM, I have a set of like new ones here I could part with.

The bullet mold mentioned above does indeed throw a 375gr. bullet with #2 alloy(hard) and is a good bullet for all but high vel., we ran a bullet giveaway/test on this one and the consensus was that it was a good accurate bullet for all but heavy loads in the .500 S&W. It is in M.T. Chambers lineup, but the mold can be had for 46$ from Midsouth Shooters Supply.

I tried it out and it does work well. I do like the distinctive Keith style SWC profile and would like to see something a little heavier say 400 - 450grs. With cast bullets some of the best accuracy I've experienced has been with bullets in the 440gr weight class.

Update; Contacting RCBS I'm told they have a mould available for the 500 S&W. It is a 400gr SWC design, Part # 82099. I'll have to see if I can talk my casting buddy to 'try' one out.;)

I have been dealing with Midsouth Shooters Supply for about 15 years and they pissed me off recently when they added a $16.00 export fee on top of the usual shipping. I haven't ordered from them since and I am not sure if I will again, another BS cost to consider if ordering from them.

I've delt with them a couple of times and I don't recall a specific export fee. Wonder if it's something new? Just received an order of forming dies from RCBS and I didn't see anything along that line on the bill. However, the mould of theirs I made mention of previously I see is a single cavity and lists for $70.95.

I was slightly wrong, I checked my previous order online and it is a 10% charge, it just worked out to $16.94 on my last order. For some reason they have deleated all my previous orders before this last one with the surcharge, I had quite a few there before.

SURCHARGE FOR INTL PAPER WORK $16.94

There will be a 10% paper work & filing fee on all orders. This fee will not exceed $20.00 USD. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
