I need a few suggestions. I want a lightish long range Coyote rifle built around a LH 700 CDL .243. The barreled action is about as accurate a rifle as I've owned so it stays together till the barrel is toast. Though I may chop it to 22". It has a Rifle Basix trigger. It sits in a McMillan Classic ADL stock that I'm thinking of selling and replacing with an EDGE compact in OD green. It wears Talley LW's and I am considering replacing them with Seekins rings/rail. I have PT&G aluminum oberndorf style bottom metal but am considering a DBM type system as well. It will probably shoot the 55gr BT and the 105 A Max depending on the application.

Any thoughts or recommendations?

55's an 105's from the same barrel in a 243... pick one or the other. You may have issues with 55's disintegrating in the twist needed for a 105.

I would go 1:9 and stick with the heavier bullets. What you lose in velocity, you gain in long rang accuracy, and cappin doggies at long range is fun. I would not suggest long range antelope hunting with small bullets either. I've not hunted antelope, but they are the same size as deer, and I think 90-105 gr is a better payload.

The 55 BT's are a known quantity. So no worries there in a 9 twist barrel. 55's at 4k are fun.:D

Antelope are not very big. They make deer look like elk.:D Here is a picture of an antelope that fell victim to the load pictured after another rifle intended for the target didn't turn out. While not ideal. It was extremely affective.

sounds like a nice setup the way it is.
One thing I would do is try some 85's or 90's.........BT's, maybe even TSX's.....and use it for everything,..no need to switch loads...

nice rig. Sounds like you've got it pretty much figured. Let me know if you do decide to flog the LH classic. Got a pard w/ a southpaw better half, and I've been talking to him about restocking a LH 700 for her. Why replace the talleys? just curious. What's riding it for glass?

The 243 is a great round for your intended purpose, but the 500 yards bit on antelope may be pushing it. If you do re-barrel it, maybe something a little bigger like a 260 would go a long way towards suitable energy at 500 yards.

For coyotes, sure it will be over kill especially at closer ranges. You can use the same load for both species, or split it up and go with 100gr BT's for the coyote and 130gr Accubond's for the antelope.

I have to agree... it seems to work fine! Unfortunately at 4K, its useful accurate life will sadly be fairly short. FWIW, I think the A-max/vmax are a great bullet choice. Accurate, frangible, available, and not obscenely expensive yet.

Barrel life is exactly why I'm thinking heavier bullets at more sane velocities.

I went to 80 btips in my 243 and they work much better at longer range than the 55s I found after 300yrds with the 55grs the accuracy really fell off.
