Here ya go a 25mm!! uses the same ammo as the Bushmaster auto cannon. Some one mentioned to me once about designing a precision rifle based on the case!! Makes a .50 look like a bb gun...want one?:D I wonder if there is an import ban on primers for this baby!!:D

imagine humping with your gear plus a 34 lb gun, with ammo? The guy will need arms thicker than his neck!
I wonder if they take first borns as payment.

I dont carry when I am humping, but if your humping that much that you cant put your rifle down then maybe your first 6 would be good for payment, lol

Humping it in at 34# plus ammo.......sound's like a job for the wife!!:D
Trying to find ammo that isn't Prohib.....Alberta wildcat to cast Bullets!!:p :D
A bear runs into a disused house:confused: Always be prepared, it can happen and don't forget the squirl in the attic:p :p :D :D :D

It's just like humping a GPMG, 200 rounds linked of 7.62, SMG (or FNC1 if the sarge is in a nasty mood), and your kit.

My take on all these new toys is that the US forces are seeing their fight moving to the urban environment away from large scale mechanized armies.

They want the soldier to be the new Abrahms with enough hitting power to take out small buildings and lightly armoured vehicles (disable/blow up the car bomb).

I really don't think carrying is a huge part of deployment. Mostly will be carried in/on HumVees or such trucks. That way they can move quickly to the fight.

if carrying is in the cards, they already saddle the grunt with a 17lbs 308. Why not a few more pounds. Them Marines are tough....

Supposed to have an effective range of 2500yds. wonder what the projectile looks like because it better look and fly like a cruise missle to have any effect at that range.

But then the HE core might give it the same effect as a few large grenades???? Wind drift..ooopss...collateral damage.

From the pic I saw of the rd (might be changed by now), it struck me more like an aimed mortar then a precision rifle. I am sure the explosion on the receiving end makes up for the less then perfect aim.

Besides, this is supposed to be used against LARGE objects not personnel. Even at 4MOA (my guess on accuracy), you can easily engage an apartment building at 2000yds or a car at 500yds.

I doubt the longer barrel will do much of anything. This is unlikely to be a high velocity rd in the first place. I will speculate that is more akin to the 45-70 then 308.

Yes, a 45-70 has an effective of over 2 miles IF you mean effective as in volley fire. Kind of neat reading the initial blackpowder tests done by Springfield.

There are a wide variety of rounds for this system. Here's a few.
25mm M790's family of ammunition
This round is fired from the Bradley Fighting Vehicle (BFV) and the Marine Lightly Armoured Vehicle (LAV). The M791 APDS-T is used for armour penetration and the M792 HEI-T is used for anti-personnel and soft target defeat. These combat rounds received excellent feedback during Operation Desert Storm.
The M791 APDS-T round possesses the accuracy and performance necessary to defeat today's threats. Its high velocity, coupled with a low time of flight, assures effective results at extended ranges.
The M792 HEI-T round offers the accuracy and performance needed for light materiel and fire suppression. This round is fuzed with the M758 Point Detonating Self-Destruct (PDSD) fuze, developed and produced exclusively by Alliant Techsystems. The M758 provides superior arming delay, graze and extended range sensitivity, and self-destruct compared to existing medium caliber fuzes.
The M793 TP-T is a low cost, target practice cartridge, ballistically matched to the M792 HEI-T round.
All rounds are interchangeable with the M242 Bushmaster gun, the KBA B02B automatic cannon, the GE525 (GAU-12/U) Gatling gun, and other NATO-qualified systems.

See, thats the problem with these threads. Everybody wants to play armchair general (Chairborne!), when it is quite obvious that this is a SPORTING gun.
No need to hump it across country. You pack it into your 4x4, drive up a logging road, unpack, load up, and blow the crap out of big boulders.
Nobody gets hurt, everybody has fun. Sounds like sport to me. :D
