Today 50km/hr gust wind, 20km/hr SW wind,
Too windy to shoot trap? I saw the clay really took off and flew so high. I could barely maintain my gun hold. My usual break point was no longer working. It was always behind. I think I only hit 16, may be. I noticed that station #3 straight away, it needed to shoot right at the target. At station 5 far right, it needed less lead ?? Not sure why though.
How would you adjust your shooting, pls? Or I should just stay home watch Netflix.

Not sure where you are, but here in Sudbury Ontario, it is indeed one of the windiest days we've had in a while.
My range day is tomorrow tho, hope it calms down, Want to shoot some groups.
If it doesn't, well, I'll jsut take some diff guns that don't need as much accuracy.

It is a beautiful sunny day but so windy. After 2 hrs, I gave up. But today learned something new abt how the clay behaves under high gust wind.

Its all part of the game - good practice for shooting ducks in a brisk November wind. Dont be discouraged by your score, try to adjust your lead to accommodate the wind by repeating the same shot several times.

Shooting in gusty conditions can be fun but not really conducive for good scores as you found out - leads are constantly changing. With a consistent wind you can adapt - not so much when it's gusting that much.
Into the wind clays will fly higher and slower, lower and faster with the wind. Don't forget the pellets are also affected by the wind - differently than the clay. Shot size matters as well in my experience. #7.5's carry marginally better (straighter and further) than #8's in winds. On gusty days I stay indoors and youtube clay shooting videos ;)

That's what I should do today. But it was fun to see the clay fly.
As you said, lead was constantly changing. I thought I figured it out. Then it went all over the map again and I was using #8 also.

I dont think i can ever repeat the shots. The wind was so strong but it was fun.

Generally speaking, if the wind is in your face then the birds will fly higher. If it comes from behind then they will be driven down. I have seen straightaways driven down below the edge of the traphouse and keep on going. Of course, if it's gusting and changing directions then all bets are off. It really sucks when you are shooting in competition and your score counts against your average.

Remember tournaments aren't scheduled around ideal weather conditions. I've shot in pouring rain, heavy snow, heavy fog and blistering heat, high winds, etc. You have to take the good with bad.

Very true.

The biggest thing most people do is change their game with weather conditions it really doesn’t work out well for most.

If they could open the range tomorrow I wouldn't care how much wind there was !!! I actually enjoy shooting on windy days, it's a bit more challenging.

After a week long push to get our Alberta ranges back open, the province released a document yesterday , that allows Alberta outdoor shooting ranges to reopen. It took a lot of effort from a group of us, but it is a done deal.

Well done stubblejumper. We're hoping that Ontario will allow the outdoor range to follow the golf courses and at least open up for members in some capacity.
