.54 blackpowder buck + a bigger one

Here's a muzzleloader small WT buck from this AM.I shot him at 95 yards through the heart with a .530 homecast ball out of my TC Renegade .54 with custom 1-70" twist green Mt barrel.Load sitting 100gr of FFG + CCI 11 magnum cap.It was funny as hell because I was shooting out of my son's dome blind and the wind swirled on ignition and it was like someone tossed in a teargas grenade.The buck never bled a drop even though it had a thumb sized hole right through the heart.found him piled up under a spruce tree60 yards away.Passed up several bigger deer earlier with modern rifle as I wanted one with the .54 didn't matter what size..........I pushed out a nice buck an hour later to my partner and he flattened him with his new T-3 .270....................Harold ...........see below

Congrats on the Bucks. I also shoot a .54 and use round balls. Mine is a Lyman Trade rifle and it likes 80g of 2f Goex. What do you think of sitting in those pop up blinds? I used one for the first time this year and like it.

Not a hell of a lot of room for a long barrelled smokepole!But it sure cuts the wind and the deer don't seem to see you..............Harold

I have the Doghouse blind, and find there is lots of room for one person, but with 2 people and the muzzleloaders, it gets a little tite.

I took 2 bucks last year with a .50 and maxis, and same thing, almost no blood trail for either buck, just a tiny drop here and there. Luckily neither one traveled very far, but with no snow and hard frozen ground tracking was a little tricky.

I have another barrel for the bigger critters a .54 1-48"conical shooter and .54 Maxi-ball Lyman mold.I use the ball barrel for deer as it shoots flatter at greater distances.At 430gr per pop[maxi-ball] I get 15.5 bullets per lb of lead!Harold ********I guess when you're making a 1/2" or larger hole expansion is irrelevant! Just got to be careful two deer arn't lined up.....................
