55 gr Berger in a 222

Remember length is more important than weight when it comes to projectile stability for a given rate of twist.

The OP doesn't specify which bullet, but Bergers generally require a faster twist. It will often specify it on the box.

I just looked at their website, and they offer two 55gr bullets from what I see? Both are flatbase, and both call for a 1:14 twist.

As 1:14 was very common for the 222, they SHOULD shoot. However, I have heard of 1:16 222s, and every rifle is different, so there is certainly a chance you'll have issues but without further info about YOUR rifle, I can only speculate based on "the norm", which is that they SHOULD work according to Bergers own specs.

Closely related question:
There is or possibly was a Steyr bolt rifle in 222 on the EE. The barrel twist noted as 1:9.
Is this specifically for 40 grain bullets at higher velocity or bullets of 60 grain yet lower velocity?

Curious here.......

Not sure I follow

Rifle is a Varmint special 1:14 and was just wondering if anyone had experience with this bullet/twist/caliber combination

That 1 in 9 would probably enjoy the 60 gr pills (and even some heavier/longer bullets), and could possibly tolerate bullets as low as 40 gr well, as long as the latter don't have jackets that are too thin and you don't push em too hard.

I loaded Hornady 55gr Cannuler Sp's in a 1-14 CIL 830 for my dad in Ontario for deer hunting. They shot fine but were used at woods ranges max 150 yards.About a dozen deer and three problem black bear later he has retired from hunting. One rd per customer.

I have recently been messing with 55gr bullets in my new howa 1500 in 222. my fire formiing load with 19.5 gr of Reloder 7 gave me several excellent groups.
I am just using up old partial boxes for fire forming Speer 55 Varmint Sp and some Sierra's 55 HP BT,
This new batch of 22 i am working up from 17.6gr to 18.1 gr Reloder 7 all with the 55 Sierra.
The rest I am shooting the Speer 55 FMJ bullet
