55 gr Nosler Bt in a 243

I'm shooting them in my rem sps varmint 26'' 1-9 1/8,with h4895,,near max load with a muzzle velocity of 3945 fps,,with great accurracy,,the only down fall is,extreme copper fouling,,,,I'm only gonna use this load in winter time on coyote,,,,currently working on a 65gr v-max load now for warm weather use,,,my load with h4895 and 65gr,v-max is giving me around 3555 fps with great accuracy,,just finished this load development yesterday

H4895 is the way to go and Varget also holds its own. I have three .243's and have found that not all .243's like 55 grainers. I have had much better luck with the 65 grain Hornady vmax's and it seems that any .243 will shoot 'em. I have loaded the 65 grainer with BLC2 and H4895 and find that they are match grade accuracy and seem to carry at longer ranges better than the 55 grain bullets. I think that they catch the 55 grainers just outside of 100 yards. I still use both, but if I had to go with one, it would be the 65 grain vmax.

In my pump 243 with 9 1/8th twist using H4895 groups were generally close to 1 MOA at 100.
I also tried some 70% loads and these were very nice to shoot and almost as accurate around 1.5 inch tops for 5 shots.

I forget what the twist is in my Ruger, but using BL(C)-2 I am averaging right around the 4000fps mark. I am going to try it on a coyote this fall - should be fun.

I load the 65gr v-max with either imr 4064 or h 4350 and both shoot moa at 100 yds.my rifle is a sps compact 20" bbl with the 4350 i get alot of muzzel flash it really draws attentsion at the range when you let those little 65grs loose:D

I've got a .243 Win. throated specifically for the 55 gr. Nosler BT bullets. So far, I haven't done a whole lot of load development but I've been using Blue Dot for some reduced velocity loads. Accuracy for 5 round groups at 100 yds. are easily .6 MOA on a consistent basis.

I'm happy with my base results eventhough I have no idea how fast they are going.

I had to get my rifle barrel chambered with a very short throat in order to shoot these bullets accurately. Between 44-45 grains of Varget (work up slowly though) gives me 3,950 to just over 4,000 fps. H4895 works very well too and the real beauty of these two powders is that they both come from Hodgdon's "Extreme" range so they are very temperature insensitive. Both loads are very accurate.
Jim.
