Got my Remington rolling block pistol model 1871 today and im almost certin its chambered for the 56 52 spencer rd
Ya its weird but sure is a cool gun i love the thing.
Anyone got the dias of a 56 52 spencer rd ??
Could be the 56 50 as well these rds both came out in 1864 and 1863 one of the patent dates is 1866 on the gun its one of these most likely the 56 50

The chamber is tapered and by my measurements this rd seems a perfect fit.
We could easy change it to something easyer to find brass for but thought idd ask as i like things orignal.
this is gona be Fun to shoot :D

I thought these were chambered for a specific .50 centrefire pistol cartridge.

Yep but this ones not a military pistol the military ones were a strait 50 case but this thing is way bigger chambered and it looks orignal not altered.
Seems from my reading 56 50 cases can be bought from starline but i gota do some more checking.

slug the bore and get the bullet diameter plus take a chamber cast ---use parafin wax if you don't have any Cerrosafe. It is not to hard to make up one or two cases out of solid stock as your iron mongering neighbor can tell you :>)
I am pretty sure that I still have a mold for a .53 cal bullet for a Spencer rifle and can cast up a few slugs if your bore is the right diameter.
remember that the bullet diameters for Spencer shells are often not what the cartridge name appears to indicate.

cheers mooncoon

USNavy used a .50 cal Rf ctg which was a shortened 56-50 Spencer. This was soon changed to the same ctg but in CF.
USArmy used a .50 CF ctg about same length as the USN ctg but with a larger rim about the same size as the 50-70.

Thats interesting info i didnt know that.
Also i think i mighta confused a few people this 1871 rolling block pistol is CF not RF

Im trying to get a couple 50 70 cases to cut down and fit by shortening them.

This gun has a very long chamber and im hopeing by cutting down 50 70 cases i can take advantage of the 50 70 length. :)

Dingus, I see you are looking for 50 70 cases, another case that may work for you and might be easier to find is the 348 winchester case
John

Thanks I will check out the 348 i seen some listed in the EE awhile back.
I got my buddy to check the chamber and its looking like this Canon is chambered for the 50 70

Well a 50 70 case would fit right in there but idd shorten it up abit i think.
