There is why even at the urgance of one of our avid skeet members whom I would bet $$ was at that shoot I no longer participate in registered skeet shoots. You break a 491/500 and you still have tied 3 times in sub gauge events and had to shoot off to determine a winner. In the big leagues like the Worlds a 400x400 gets you to the shoot offs and there is none to little cash reward. Drop 1 target and you go home empty handed. Break a 98 in handicap at the Grand in trap and you just made your living for the year with your winnings, run them all and you just made 2 years!!:D

I'll stick to skeet for fun and wingshooting practice.......:p

A wise man once told me the secret how you end up with $1million in the bank shooting skeet....... you start with $2million in the bank.

I have no delusions of actually making money shooting. I would suggest most people who compete are of the same mind set.

Hard to understand the "Mississippi Flyway" grammar, but I think "The Spank" needs to rethink why he's into shooting at all, if winning money is all there is. Yes, you can win big at the "Trap Game", rife with sand bagging and all!

Been shooting Skeet for 25 years - cost $ 125,000.00; winnings <$1,000.00; Good Friends - "Priceless"

Ditto Donski well said. I shot a lot of trap and made money and it was good. You go to a trap shoot like the Grand or a state shoot and meet your squad and at the end of the shoot they are all still strangers.
Go to a skeet shoot and meet your squad and you will probably have new people who will wave at you everytime they see you.
There is just a different social aspect. If I ever just want to make money shooting the sign will read "For sale skeet gun" and hello trap field .
So I'll see ya on the skeet field.

If I wanted to make serious money at sport, I'd have been a left handed pitcher. Until then, I'll work for my money and spend it playing on the skeet field. Money well spent I reckon.

As I stated skeet I shoot for the fun of it and to practice my wing shooting. I dont do the NSSA thing any more, I did for two seasons...the first season I shot my required number of targets before going to an event at another club and I didnt sandbag, never have, never will...I dont have to! At the conclusion of the shoot I was high gun the first day on 200 targets and right away there was a complaint filed because someone didnt feel my classification was correct. Found out right away that the "clique" didnt like being beat! Too freaakin bad, crybaby! Never had that happen at the Grand and only once at a trapshoot within the province in 20 years of shooting registered trap, any time I placed and won money, prizes etc it was awarded to me with a quick check of my classification card and score check, no questions asked and awarded with a smile and congratulations! I'll stick to trapfield for my registered shooting, thank you very much!

Never heard of a protest of a classification in my prov. Just congratulating a good shooters good fortune to shoot well.

Maybe you should stick to trap shooting, where you belong.

Your province?? Your profile shows you living in the GTA, same province as mine! Of course you wont have classification complaints when you stay under the radar in D class!!:HR:

I have an idea for anyone doing a masters thesis in advanced mathematics: Try to figure out the average number of posts on any internet thread before it turns into a schoolyard name calling excercise...my guess is six...

Honestly, I have shot trap, skeet and sporting, and never had a bad experience. But, like anything else, if money is involved, there will be problems...hell, I have seen fist fights break out over pitching washers, and that was in my own family!

What bothers me is people who don't either realize or appreciate the huge effort and time people put in to make these shoots happen, and never realize a cent from in. To not at least give them your thanks, whether you thought it was a good shoot or not, shows a true lack of good manners. At small shoots put on by volunteer clubs, if there is money awarded and I am lucky enough to get some, I will give back to the club. As many have said, you will never get rich shooting skeet, so you might as well do whatever you can to keep the sport alive.

Now...who will be the first to flame me and validate my theory? lol
