Just wondering who stocks the 581 specifically. I've seen a couple places that list the firearm, but don't mention the series.

Also, for a reloader, is the amount of damage the Mini does to the brass quite significant? Does the dent get minimized during resizeing, or are the cases ruined???

Definitely less damage than the Swiss Arms...

If you are talking about the S&W 581, it was discontinued years ago. You can still find them in good used condition. But guys like me usually hang onto them forever. Too bad they are prohib.

The cases fired will show a pretty good ding from the shell deflector but will not affect reloading in any way. After resizing you will still notice the ding, but it is purely cosmetic.

Okay. That puts me one step closer to a Mini. :p

I was definitely concerned about that.

Now, I wonder where I can snag a 581 series.

I haven't actually seen any advertised for sale in at least a year or two. Doesn't mean there haven't been any but I was surprised that I haven't bumped into one as I troll websites looking at new guns all the time. I vaguely remember reading a thread on here that mini14's had a slow down in importation but I could not be remembering properly.

Happy hunting. The cons of the platform are very well known and the rifle has always operated as good as I've always expected it to. For a non-res carbine it functions great.

Yeah, accuracy isn't a super big deal for me. 2MOA is decent enough for a carbine of this nature....

If any dealers are looking at this, let me know if you plan on having a 580+ mini imported...

All of the New Mini's being sold anywhere would be the 581 series. I bought mine from Wanstalls a few years ago. You will only find the lower numbered serial numbers if you buy a used one. The tapered barrel is an indication that it is a 581 series.

Agreed,

My CSA 5.56 dings cases, and I have reloaded them and put them through the bolt gun with no issues.

You and me both.. I'm looking for a stainless/synthetic model in Alberta (I can buy it there and save 7% tax) :ninja:
