Anyone know if a 586...357 with 6in barrel is a good gun
And if it will be a lot easier on my hands than my 29-2 44
Thanks

Yes & yes.

A diet of .38 Specials in it will likely suit you perfect. ;)

Mind ,you could down load the 44 as well. But you sold it, I just remembered.
I don't as a rule shoot 357m out of my guns, light or standard loads in 38 special
You just have to clean the cylinder a bit more.
I like the 586 more than the 685 stainless, but the guns are great.

Shooting full bore 44 magnums gets tiring after awhile. Unless you reload buying 44 specials can be expensive and hard to find but out of your 29 they are really pleasant to shoot. For sure get the 586 but if you do not yet you should look at reloading as then you can load both to whatever comfort levels yo7 want.

Definitely good guns. I would prefer stainless 686 models simply because its easier to maintain, clean, etc... That deep blue old 586s have, something to die for...

Why do you prefer the 586 to the 686?

I just prefer nice shinny blue.
I have had stainless guns, the early ones had problems back in the early days, with gulling, not common, but I did run into it.
Today that is not a problem
Seems with stainless ,I was always cleaning them.
Blue will show more holster wear.
If I was doing a action job, I think carbon steel is easier to work with. Just my theory.

I owned one of the original shipment 586's in Canada back in the mid 80's.
Nicest trigger I have shot right out of the blue box ! Stupid for selling it.

I'm not saying it's a bad gun but it is much larger than it needs to be considering the cartridge. I sold all my 686 and bought a 66 instead.

I have a 586 no dash nicest trigger I’ve ever fired. Love it. 357 is fairly tame with the 6” barrel and full underlug. If you have a chance at one go for it.

The reason for its increase in size over the k frames was that the k frames couldnt take a steady diet of full power magnum loads. So if you shoot those a lot, the 586/686 is the better choice. K frames seem to balance better in my hands though, so I prefer them. Had a nice 586 snubbie years back I traded for an N frame snubbie. I no longer own any L frames. - dan

I have a few pistols but my only revolver at the moment is a 586. The only one I kept as it is , to me, the best ( for a reasonable price ). I also shoot mainly .38 spl.
