I am going to pick one of these up and was wondering if they have had any problems ? It seems like they are a great shotgun.

I bought one last fall, great shotgun. It's a bit on the heavy side though, but helps keep the muzzle jump down. All you need now is a bayonet :D .

I`ve owned one for over 15 years. The magazine spring eventually became too weak. It would not feed properly with one shell in the magazine. Other then that no issues.

I had a catasrphic jam after dropping mine about 2 feet. One of the shell carrier tabs bounced out of the reciever and locked the gun tighter than a nun's ****. It took over an hour (not in the field either) to get unstuck. I'll never trust another 590.

870 or recoil operated semi auto for me.

If I understand your comment correctly, you dropped the gun and you blame it for its malfunction and that is why you are giving it a bad reference?

I enjoy mine, had a minor problem when it locked open, took another cgn to solve it for me. Ensure that your safety is tight, if the thingy inside the receiver gets off square it will cause it to lock open.

My 590 is the parkerized model, and is equipped with the ghost ring and post sights, and has a heat shield, which protects the barrel. I have carried this particular 590 in every conceivable weather condition, and except when cleaning it has been loaded since I bought it in early 2000. It has never failed to function or fire. I do not baby this gun, I just keep it clean. The only thing I've done to the gun is to install a thin piece of stainless behind the recoil pad. The recoil pad was being damaged by the speed feed springs, and I wrap electrical tape around the seam to keep moisture out. I have had several bad falls on slippery coastal rocks while carrying this gun, and none of the falls resulted in damage, other than a slightly bent front sight blade. I bought numerous spare parts for this gun, and thus far I have not needed them. This gun has saved my life at least once. I don't think I could ask for more from a pump shotgun.

I have a 20 inch 590 special purpose (not the A1) with GS sights and I love it. I use it REAL hard and put it away wet, and it has never let me down. Tough as nails, smooth, and mean looking. Great shotgun for the money. Period.

Yes, I know it's silly to do this to a shotgun, but I get a kick out of it.

Technical question here. I'm looking at the photo, and there's one thing that's really nagging me as to your setup.

How the [bleep] did you manage to talk your wife into that camouflage bedspread?

About the only bad thing I can say about mine is the slide is rough compared to my friends rem 870.
And mines not an A1,it just a 590

Squirt some toothpaste in the action and rack it about 1000 times ( i do it while watching TV). itll be smooth as butter after that!
