Ordered a Mossberg 590A1 today, its the 20" 8+1 capacity model with the ghost ring sights. What red dots have you guy put on these and do the sights get in the way of a red dot? I'm thinking about putting a SPARC II on it eventually. Also, how are the factory sights? I'm assuming they are adjustable but can't find any info on that.

The ghost rings are quite good from what I remember of my model that had them, even if you are shooting slugs at 50yds you should be okay without an optic.

Congrats. Out of the box, they're a little stiff working the action but they break in nicely. The rear sight is adjustable for windage & elevation. Never felt I needed a RDS on it but have at it. Is your model the one with the rail on the receiver?

It’s a great Shotgun, I’ve got a blackwater one and the sights work well out of the box. I ended up putting a cheap Bushnell trs-25 and it works fine.

I don't think mine has a rail on the receiver. I Would have to add that i guess.

After having a micro RDS on a pistol suddenly everything needs one lol

I've had a 590a1 for fifteen or so years. I've only ever used the stock ghost ring sights...there fine. When it comes to blasting buckshot, I am faster with it compared to my Super Nova with a red dot

Congrats! Where did you get it? They are as rare as hen's teeth.

got it at dominion outdoors in manitoba. They had it in 2 days after me ordering it. I havent shot it yet (-35 here the past 2 weeks) but length of pull seems too long for me on this shotgun so I ordered a magpul stock for it so i can shorten it up.

The Hogue stock is about 1" shorter than the factory buttstock too, that's what I have on mine and it fits like a glove. I don't know who works at Mossberg and Benelli but they must all be over 7 feet tall lol.

and that holosun seems to be holding up to a 12 gauge?

We have been running one on a benelli 14 inch for years now. Haven't even had to replace the battery yet. I went and bought one for my 870 and when it goes on sale again I will buy one for my 500. Someone said aim point. If your willing to spend the cash get an aim point. I have had one for 5 years now and works like a dream on anything I put it on.

Stay away from the Bushnell trs. It has blind spots (where the dot disappears) and it's a sloppy dot. I do own two but holosuns absolutely destroy them in every way. I never owned a spare or looked though one even. I cannot say anything about them.

Also my 500 is a 20 inch with magpul furniture. I love that stock.

Keep the GRS. Any tubed red dots, such as tr-25 etc are sticking too far up. Your stock will be to low and you get a chin weld looking through it. If you must get an optical, get a pistol reflex sight that allows you to be close to the bore axis. Same thing applies to all SKS owners with a scout mount btw.

The 12" Hogue buttstock was terrible, it felt so cramped. The factory unit was about 14.5", the Hogue was way too short, the Choate I bought was around 13.5" (took two small spacers out) and felt perfect.

Everyone is different, sometimes a little trial and error is necessary. Some units have sections you take out or put in to adjust, that's the best scenario when you like the stock's geometry and can adjust the LOP.
