Keep the GRS. Any tubed red dots, such as tr-25 etc are sticking too far up. Your stock will be to low and you get a chin weld looking through it. If you must get an optical, get a pistol reflex sight that allows you to be close to the bore axis. Same thing applies to all SKS owners with a scout mount btw.
Unless he gets a magpul stock... which he did ☺ as far as the dot being close to the bore I would say that's not so important on a non rifled shotgun. Hell I'd say it's not important on anything but a precision rifle. And even then it depends on the scope/application.
