590A1 or Grizzly for work and play ?

Hello All,

I'm having a difficult time making up my mind on a "work and play" shotgun.

I've narrowed things down to 2 different shotguns. The Mossberg 590A1 51660 and the Grizzly 12.5" Grizzly.

The gun will ride in the truck on a daily basis and be used to put down suffering animals as well as a fishing partner/camp gun.

I know the Mossberg is "milspec" and has great reviews. How does the Grizzly fare in the durability/reliability department ? Anywhere close to the Mossberg ?

Last question is about sights.....for inside 75' I'm leaning towards a bead sight. Should I consider a ghost ring sight ?

590A1 Hands down... the Grizzly doesnt even stand a chance against it...

Ive got the 18.5" model w/ regular GhostRing sights, and thats all I could ever ask for & need, as the Mossys are hands down above any Grizzly, and Remington Ive ever owned... :D
 
Another one here for the 590A1!

I have the 20" bbl with LPA Ghost Ring Sights and fibre optic front and I absolutely love it. 9 shots (2 3/4") and super smooth operation. Cant ask for any more in a shotgun IMHO. I have the Hogue LOP stock on mine and am thinking about putting the Surefire forend I have on the EE onto it. These things are tough as hell, you wont regret it
 
Hmm 240ish more and not as short i guess it depends what you want it for if packing it around all day and such is on you plans like you say i would go with the grizzly there shorter and for the price diff you cant buy a few goodies for it. I love my grizzly its a tank. For 305ish you get the 12.5 grizzly with ghost sights

Short doesn't always mean better. I have owned a good number of 870's including a couple Grizzly's and I always found the 590 to be better handlin
 
I have both and they are great guns, tough and well built. That said if I was offered a Sofie's Choice I would definately pick the 590. Its a bit longer but is more robust and reliable. Also they are almost identical in weight, so while the Griz packs better it doesnt carry any better.
 
i got the 8.5 grizzly for fishing it fits great it a breachers tactical scabard that wanstalls sells it sits on your back and you dont even notice its there
 
If I had just one it would be a 18.5" 590 non A1 with ghost ring sights. Imho The A1 adds unnecessary weight with no real return for that weight. That being said I currently have a 20" 590 non a1 with ghost rings, an 8.5" grizzly and an 870. The grizzly gets carried more because it's handy but I would rather depend on the 590.

Personal preference is a big time issue with sight set-ups, some people swear by Ghost Rings, while others have a saying that I received from Gunsmithing school, " A bead is all ya need " ; Im more favourable for the bead sight also, but I have nothing against Ghost Rings either... :)

If you have the ability, try them both out, and see whats to your liking... :D
 
I find that because I have kind of a long skinny pecker-neck, the bead sights are pretty uncomfortable for me. Ghost rings allow me to bring my head up a bit and shoot more relaxed. This also prevents my cheek bone from getting bruised by the stock while still getting a solid cheek-weld.
Like these guys have already said, try em both and see what works better for you.
