590A1 - Why the wait?

Been wanting a Mossberg 590A1 for quite some time. After going to the range with run of the mill 870's, and consistently have cycling/ejecting issues, I've decided I want something that will be tough, reliable and ###y. Something multi purpose that can be thrown in the boat for camping, beat the snot out with at the range, or kept in the closet for things that go bump in the night.

I decided on the 590a1 for its reviews, its looks, and its functionally. While they have many models with a lot of options, I really wanted a 20" than can hold 9 rounds, pic rails and ghost sights. The speed feed stock doesn't really interest me, but its a neat option. I decided (don't flame me) on the Blackwater edition, 51772. Not because of the logo on the side, but because it is the big bang for the buck model. It comes with everything I want, for under $600. Placed an order with McAdam in New Brunswick 6 months ago, and have been checking with them monthly. I've searched stores everything, and nobody (that I've found) in Canada has any for sale. I understand waiting for shipments from the US sometimes takes a little while, but I'm growing impatient..

I've seen new 870 owners having to mortar the spent hull from their guns when using Winchester loads. My Mossy was a bit stiff to extract spent hulls but never had to mortar it. I've polished the chamber and easier to extract for sure.

Talked t o mossberg at shot show they at capasity for production, 1oo% of what they make is sold before the make it
Big push on the MVP rifle.
Don't exspect too see them before summer

I got mine from SFRC. Took it out of the box and put a case of those crap Winchesters through it. Just to break it in. Ran flawlessly.

Yeah I saw the ones at Milarm the other day actually. But I've been waiting specifically for the Blackwater Edition, nobody in the country seems to have one. Couple used ones are hit and miss.....but I'm not a used gun kind of guy.

Funny you should mention that. Today I was contemplating cancelling my order and buying an 870 express with a 28" barrel. Then buy a separate 18.5" barrel and have the whole kit parkerized or Cerakoted.

Don't even bother getting an Express.

Get a used Wingmaster receiver or full shotgun on the EE. Cut barrel to 18.5'' or trade + cash for a Dominion Arms or NEA 12.5'' or 14'' or OEM 18.5 or 20''.

Go to S&J Hardware and upgrade as desired.

If you want to swap stocks out, you got the choice of Magpul, Hogue, Speedfeed. I have the Speedfeed I set and it serves me well. It came on the Wingmaster I picked up off the EE

No need to have the gun refinished. Just run her hard and put some wear marks on her and give it that worn look.

I think you can get this all done for about $500 if you buy used on the EE.

I passed on a Remington 870 Tactical for my son at Christmas, couldn't see me spending that money on a shotgun that appeared very inferior to my old 870SP from 1986. It was very close to Christmas and after exhausting all the local stores, I spyed a manganese phosphate parkerized winking at me way back in the corner there. Hmmm...a Mossberg and it's previously enjoyed. Always felt they were a notch down from 870's back in the day, but this thing felt solid and that finish reminded me of my Military rifles and my 870. Took about 30 sec's to decide where my Shotgun money was going. Bought it, came home and went on line to see what I had,.. it was a 590A1 SPX. The stock was changed by the OO to a 6 position tactical, and I went back after I knew what the SPX came with and asked if they had the M-9 bayonet for it. They didn't.

Oh well, it looks the part anyhow, no range report as yet,..... he still hasn't taken it out of the safe!!!!

I'd say keep your order for the 590, if you saw it next to a 500 dollar tactical 870 you'd know why, and I'm a Remington 870 guy.

I have a Blackwater 590A1 that I got from SFRC. You won't be disappointed, nice finish, the sights are awesome to use, easy to disassemble for cleaning and it's built like a tank. The only thing I can tell you from experience is watch your thumb placement on the foregrip when firing heavy loads. Those side rails stick out a bit and can bite! I was told when I bought it that Mossberg couldn't keep up with the demand in the States let alone Canada.

Did you check CT in Leduc they had lots. Also pretty sure WSS has a bunch of them. I got pissed off waiting on the Black water. I doubt there will be in coming in ever. I settled for the 590A1 18.5 at WSS Love it awesome gun never hand any problems.

Thanks guys. I checked CT in Leduc; there is one there, but only an 18.5. I thought about settling and getting whatever, but as stated, there are certain things on the blackwater I like, like the rails, speed stock, for end rails, mag extenter and ghost sights. I figure to buy a plain jain 590a1 and upgrade it to have all those spec's, the cost would be well above the cost of the Blackwater model. So I will give it until March, and see what happens from there. But yeah, seems to be the same story, huge US demand, Canadian market, meh.
