Not unlike most other 597 owners, my extractor blew out during firing and can't find plunger.
Does anyone know where in Canada I can get one or two ( I hear it's a common problem) or do I have to pay three times what it's worth to have it shipped from brownells.
Thanx
Mike

^Is that the little metal bracket where the spring attaches for bolt hold open, if so I have the little metal "bracket" piece(dont know proper term). Pic of part you need may help..

Confused as to which part your looking for, the plunger and rod for the extractor or the hold open spring? Either way try Mill Arms

Which parts are you talking about?

Dang Mike, are you having problems already?
How many rounds have you gone through in that puppy? What kind of rounds were you using?
You might want to try and give Elwood Epps a call. They carry a pretty wide stock of repair parts, but be prepared for some sticker shock. Is that VQ extractor looking better now?

The parts missing from mine were 19, 20, 21, not sure if those were the same for you. I just took it to bass pro today and they refused to do anything for me, they said they jsut sell the guns and remington makes them so it is their fault and to go to a remington repair center and fix it under warranty. Well good news is there is only two of those around and they are so far away its not worth it. I took it to SAIL and they are ordering me the parts. Bass pro and remington have screwed me enough and have finally lost my business for good.

There is a trick to putting the parts in place.
If you or the factory monkey don't do it right they will fly off!
Do it right and you are golden.
The extractor fits into a slot that is cut in a Zig_Zag.
If you only Zig but don't Zag then any amount of end pressure on the extractor will cause the extractor to pop out/off.
TEST your installation by putting end pressure on the extractor otherwise your new VQ extractor will pop off too.

To keep the bolt hold open device pin from popping off during disassembly for cleaning, I tapped the mag well 6-32 with a bottoming tap. Then used the screw from a 6-32 chicago screw. I did need to turn the DIA of the screw head down about .040" on the lathe. A file and a drill will work if you don't have a lathe. And a bottoming tap can be made by grinding the lead off of a standard jobber tap.
My initial fix was to use crazy glue on the pin but this is only a temporary fix as cleaning solvent eats crazy glue.

Parts are avalible from brownells and they will ship to canada without issue. The extractor, plunger and spring will come out to under 20 including shipping.

mine blew out first time out brought it back to lebaron and they swapped it for a new one on the spot, no help nto you i know but misary loves company, p.s. havent had a problem with the new one

The spring and plungers are easily made/sourced from any Bic lighter and 1/8" metal rod. The spring from under the flint in most disposable lighters is usually a good match. The plungers are short lengths of 1/8" metal rod with one end reduced in diameter for the spring to fit over (use a lathe or chuck it in a drill and hold a file against it until the spring fits)

Here is one I made for another CGN out of a HSS drill bit and a spring from a bag-O-springs from Princess Auto...

The length of spring and plungers is not particularly critical. I usually make one plunger longer than the other so I can trim it back if desired. The same can be done with the spring (trimmed as necessary). Inversely the length can be shimmed by simply dropping any small widget down the hole before inserting the spring assembly.

Incidentally, the stock extractor has functioned flawlessly for me once I sharpened up the edges/point and made the angle of the hook a bit more aggressive... no need for a VQ custom part when the stock one can be shaped to work as well.
