597 Feeding problems.. how to disassemble the magazine?

I had my 597(.22LR) for a few month now and shot about 750+ rounds thu the gun. I only disassembled the gun once for cleaning that was before I shot it for the first time. Since, twice I have ran a few patches thu the bore and cleaned the bolt, breech with a Q-tip thu the ejection port. But I’ve never really cleaned the magazine.

I’ve never had a single FTE, but on the last couple of trips I was getting feeding problems (last time it was worst than the first time): ammo nose dived in the magazine (first I though the round was a dud, but the chamber was empty...) I noticed when I load the mag the ammo sometimes doesn’t point up like it’s supposed to and just sits flat. I’m pretty sure the magazine just needs to be cleaned, since I never had any problems before.

So how do you disassembled the mag? In the manual it says you have to depress the sides (mag body or the plastic bottom?)

Squeeze the sides at the bottom while pulling on the plastic base, the base will pop right off.

Personally, I wouldn't get into the habit of stripping your 597 mags on a regular basis. Although it is possible by removing the plastic base from the metal body, the more times you do it, the more undue stress/wear you're placing in the plastic base ...and eventually, it won't seat as tightly as it should when you go to reassemble the mag.

Hi again IM, above is a link you will find helpful for mag disassembly.
I do a complete teardown on my 597 about every 400 to 500 rounds. I ALWAYS disassemble and clean and teflon lube the magazine at this time. You will be amazed at how much powder residue and other crud collects in there.
I have experienced feeding problems from a dirty magazine, however I don't agree with the above poster who recommends not opening mag.

On the latest generation magazines you can't squeeze the sides (this instruction was for the first plastic ones) I gently pry the base off with a small flat head screwdriver. Wash, rinse, assemble.

My comment was regarding the latest (metal) generation of 597 magazine which - as another poster already noted - requires prying off the plastic base.

It was the recommendation of my gunsmith (who is also an authorized Remington service centre) that repeated 'prying off' of the plastic bases on these metal magazines be avoided unless absolutely necessary due to the potential for the plastic mating surfaces of the base to eventually become worn to the point where they'll no longer fit properly on the metal body.
